We are prepared to adopt a sibling group as well since I would never want to split up siblings. We are told that we will probably be waiting another year or so before we get to the top of the waiting list. Again, my hat goes off to you! I took to the doc today to get the ritalin. I didn't even realize that I already had refills that I could have just picked up with no appt!! Boy did I feel stupid. I have never had a child on meds. Well, the doctor was glad because with all the papers I gave her she can study up before she sees me again. She said she was not completely comfortable with risperdal and had not ever prescribed it. When they accept the application it sits in a file for 2 years and doesn't even get looked at until at least the 2 year mark. I think it's because they want people to really think about adoption, and also they have lots of people who want to adopt. We applied through social services, here in our community. We knew going into it that there wouldn't be any babies to adopt and that the child would be older (apparently the average age is 3). We told them that we would consider sibling groups, special needs, and either sex. I know that we are good candidates with a loving home, wonderful marriage, I'm a SAHM and my husband is a police officer. He gets frustrated because he sees so many kids through his work that need a home, yet here we wait and wait and wait. Seems sad that we know that there are lots of kids sitting in foster care who could be with us right now. Red tape, I guess. Anyway, I'll just be glad when the wait is over. " - except for having a man in my life, I'm through with that! at least until age 70; once the kids leave me I plan to have time just for ME and won't be through until around that age. I've also been there, didn't have a job when my marriage broke up and neither did he once I left as he had to find another place to live also. And I was under great stress knowing my husband's unpredictability and wondering what might happen & when. So some more hugs to you for that, it's HARD! But I know you already know how much better things will be in the long run for you and the kids so just hang in there and keep looking ahead to that point, you'll reach it! And it's the same here so far as a bad time for looking for work (unless you're a nurse or a teacher). Have you been thru the temporary agencies? That worked great for me although at times there was way too many weeks between jobs. But if I could have afforded it, I'd have temped for life, loved it! (And with mental health reform here, looks like I might be calling them again!) And it's a relief the kids are taking it well and Tommy still doing fine in school, that's a BIG load off your shoulders and hugs to Tommy for doing so well now in school now as I know he's struggled!
