Guest guest
Pearl goes home on Monday. She is lonely, ticked off, sick, and feeling totally cranky. She is not getting good care at DRMC. Yesterday, convinced she was going to die she had the notary public come in and signed power of attorney papers for her daughter to take over her paperwork, etc. She was throwing up continuously and couldn't get any help. Finally the anesthesiologist came in, put the IV in and gave her some " magic potion " and stopped the nausea. She has requested yogurt for two days and no one responds to her at all. She will be on the wound vac for 4 weeks. She will have a hospital bed, nursing service, and the wound vac sent to her brother's house. She especially wanted Jo to know she is at DRMC until Monday. She said she saw Dr. K for a nano second today, but not yesterday. Pearl never complains, so there is probably something to this. She wanted me to post for her. She needs some love, hugs, and YOGURT! Guest guest
Thanks Marla for the update about Pearl. I am here still in the Holiday Inn Express in Delano until Monday. My dad went back to Fresno to spend time with his parents and has the car. If I had a car I would go see her and take her some yogurt. I was released last Monday form DRMC and my mom and I talked when I was there and since I have gotten out how about the difference in care was since I had the GRDS in Jan 05. I know the ticked off feeling that Pearl is feeling. My mom stayed with me the whole time I was there both times. This time you could ask and ask and not get any help. The night CNA acted like I was bothering her when I asked for pain med's maybe once or twice during the night. Other nurse's were getting on to me because I waited to long to ask for help. Also, once I was in the restroom and accidently touched the button on the wall for help and you would have thought I had committed a crime or something. I had to ask on the third day for something other than Vicodin because I can not take it, which should have been in all my records because of last time. Finally my Aunt who is not at all pushy went out to the nurses desk and asked they said they would see what they would do and nothing happened. Then next morning I asked again and my mom said something and the nurse was so sorry the others had not changed it. She had it changed in a matter of minutes. From then on the pain was fine. In fact I have came through this surgery better than the GRDS, a lot less painful and can do thing for myself more. Dr. K was even surprised how good I was compared to the last. Saying this was the harder of the two surgeries. As for the food. I do not even know why they gave me the paper to fill out. My trays were always there right on schedule but hardly ever was I asked for. Or if I did not circle something they gave it to me anyway. I got Dr. Pepper one meal never asked for the nurse came to pick up my tray asked if I wanted to keep it or drink it. I told her I did not order it or like it and she then asked are you even suppose to have it. Another time I received a hot turkey sandwich with one slice bread and dinner roll and a slice of whole wheat bread with butter in the same meal. I would ask for cranberry juice and I received it once. They told my uncle I could not have a milk shake and brought me chocolate ice cream. My mom usually ended up going to the cafeteria and bringing me back something. Or when she and my dad went out while my aunt of grandparents sat with me they would bring me their left overs. The papers I received to fill out said low sugar high protein and other than the protein drink twice a day they were high in carbs not much protein. The service of the nurses was very discouraging but Dr. K is great and as far as he goes putting up with the hospital is worth it. But of course I had my mom there to do whatever I needed because the nurses wouldn't. The night nurse was the worse. Every shot she gave me is still sore and I still have a big bruise and whelp on one of my arms and leg from her. If I had to go back I would definitely ask she was not my nurse. If you asked her a question or for something she would look at you like you were bothering her or you where really stupid. The first time I had a BM I called because I needed some help the CNA became very agitated and told me it was not her job and looked at my mom. I was embarrassed enough to even have to ask for help On top of this my mom is disabled and in a wheelchair. But she was more help to me than any of the nurses. Except for one and her CNA. Sorry this is so grippy but I was really disappointed and know that Pearl is not a griper. The nursing staff's attitudes and service has changed. I hope the realize it soon and they it get go back to normal. -- Pearl Update Pearl goes home on Monday. She is lonely, ticked off, sick, and feeling totally cranky.
