Guest guest
I can totally sympathize with you. Our son was an escape artist when he was a toddler, starting when he was about 2 and a half. When it first started, he was escaping the house when social services happened to be visiting our neighbor, and found him running around outside without me. I was pregnant with our youngest, and busy throwing up when she knocked on the door. Of course, they decided to come back. He was able to unlock the main door, and our land lord was unwilling to let us drill into the door to add a deadbolt, or a sliding lock, or anything. We wound up having to remove the door knob, and replace it with a lock. In order to enter or exit the house, you had to use the key just to pull the door open, whether it was locked or not (it wasn't kept locked). We moved shortly before our youngest was born, and it was winter- things were calm for a while. Come the following summer when he was about 3, he started silently protesting nap time. At the time, our youngest was a newborn, I was depressed, and I had an out of control toddler to deal with. It was a long summer. He wound up learning how to unlock the window, then he tore the screen out, and was able to jump out of the window. We were in a trailer, so while it was a 1st floor window, it was up higher than normal, too. The first two times it happened, I didn't realize he was using his window- I thought he was escaping through the front or back door, so we added a deadbolt to the front door, and inserted a stick in the back sliding door so it couldn't open as easily. The third time it happened, a neighbor found him, and it happened to have happened about 2 minutes before my husband got home with our only car, so the woman thought we left him home alone and called social services. We wound up putting a baby gate in his window, and putting his dresser in front of the window as well, and keeping all the doors locked. Needless to say, after 2 different visits with Social Services over " neglect " , we were absolutely paranoid in keeping things locked up tight. Probably wasn't the best way to do it, but that's what we came up with. > > Hi Everyone, I'm new at this and the group. I can't keep my little guy behind a gate!!!! I have therapist in and out of my home. I don't think they would think kindly of a security door in the doorway to his and his sisters room. I have it baby safe in the 2 rooms and the hall. What can I use to keep him in? He is going to be 3 in Nov but was a 1 pound preemie(twins) (they is on the small side and look maybe 2) > Sandy in AZ on Mars >
