Mindy,

Welcome - not that anyone really wants to be a member of this particular club!

Since has already been clinically diagnosed I am assuming that you

have found or are already looking for a qualified therapist for him?

Hi Mindy,

Welcome. Glad you decided to introduce yourself. Our 17 yr old

son was diagnosed with OCD just this last fall. Now we realize he

has had symptoms for many years. He's had the 'just right' symptoms

in the past. Right now he is mainly dealing with contamination

fears. A couple of good books to read that really give insight into

the disorder are:

" Freeing Your Child From Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder " by Dr Tamar

Chansky

" What To Do When Your Child Has Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder " by Dr

Aureen Pinto Wagner

We also had a house fire, about 13 years ago. We think that is

what first brought on our son's OCD symptoms. They were very mild at

that time, so we did not recognize them as OCD at the time. I know

how stressful that can be to deal with. We were out of our house for

about 4 months. If you'd like to share house fire stories, you can

send me an email; since it is not OCD related. I can share some of

the 'fun' (NOT!) that we went thru that we can now look back on and

laugh about.

Welcome and take care

Connie

Welcome, Mindy. Very glad you are here. This is a great group.

A few books that come to mind that helped us to learn so much about

OCD were. . .

Talking Back to OCD by March

What to do When your " Child has Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder by

Aureen Pinto Wanger

Freeing your Child from Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder by Tamar Chansky

If you haven't read any of them, you might check to see if your

library has them. The books gave us knowledge and hope. They also

helped me to understand what our son is going through, so much better.

Yes I've been looking. He has a therapist here in town, but I think I need to

find one who is a little more qualified than he is. Unfortunately the only way

to do that is to travel a couple hours away. But I'm definitely searching.

Thank you so much for the suggestion. I haven't read any of those books, only

internet sites so far. I'll definitely get to the library this week and check

those out. The internet sites are all so clinical, doesn't have much in the way

of helping personally. Thank you!
