Guest guest Posted April 1, 2008 Report Share Posted April 1, 2008 Hi Mindy, Welcome. Glad you decided to introduce yourself. Our 17 yr old son was diagnosed with OCD just this last fall. Now we realize he has had symptoms for many years. He's had the 'just right' symptoms in the past. Right now he is mainly dealing with contamination fears. A couple of good books to read that really give insight into the disorder are: " Freeing Your Child From Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder " by Dr Tamar Chansky " What To Do When Your Child Has Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder " by Dr Aureen Pinto Wagner We also had a house fire, about 13 years ago. We think that is what first brought on our son's OCD symptoms. They were very mild at that time, so we did not recognize them as OCD at the time. I know how stressful that can be to deal with. We were out of our house for about 4 months. If you'd like to share house fire stories, you can send me an email; since it is not OCD related. A few books that come to mind that helped us to learn so much about OCD were. . . Talking Back to OCD by March What to do When your " Child has Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder by Aureen Pinto Wanger Freeing your Child from Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder by Tamar Chansky If you haven't read any of them, you might check to see if your library has them. Unfortunately the only way to do that is to travel a couple hours away. But I'm definitely searching. I'll definitely get to the library this week and check those out. The internet sites are all so clinical, doesn't have much in the way of helping personally. Thank you!
