Guest guest
I'm sure many of us have had emails from Sermo which I haven't joined. But it looks as though Sermo has enough members that it's developing some clout. Is anyone a member/know more about this group? Should IMPs join in with them for things such as the attached? Ellen Participate in Healthcare Reform Dear Dr. michaelson, With over 5,400 physician signatures, the Physicians' Appeal is off to a powerful start. Join your colleagues and add your voice to the reform effort today. On September 8th, the day Members of Congress return to Washington, the signed Physicians' Appeal will be delivered to Senators from every state. To get their full attention, at least 10,000 physicians must sign the Appeal. That leaves only two weeks to sign and get your colleagues involved. Sign the Physicians' Appeal Today Lawmakers will use the Sermo platform to work directly with the Sermo physician community. This is our chance to ensure they address the real issues that physicians know will lead to effective reform: Tort reform Transparency in billing Insurance reform Recalculation of reimbursements Show your lawmakers that you want to play an active role in creating meaningful healthcare reform. Sincerely, Palestrant, MD CEO Founder, Sermo P.S. After you sign the Physicians' Appeal, forward this link to 5 of your colleagues and urge them to do the same: https://md.sermo.com/medical/ticket/details?id=39672 If you would prefer not to receive this kind of email from Sermo, please change your email preferences here. Guest guest
I have been a member of Sermo for quite some time and unlike AMA and subspecialty organizations, Sermo represents the interests of their members based on polling, and through quality research and educational efforts. They present a reserved, authenitic and well considered position on all issues of concern to us as physicians. I strongly suggest that involved physicians and all physician groups regardless of specialty join Sermo and thereby increase overall impact on our politicians as well as educating the patient population. Guest guest
, I agree. Sermo seems to be gathering clout. i was initially reluctant to join as I wasn't clear just what Sermo was, or who was behind it. I was concerned that this would be another effort to compile information about physicians and their opinions, to sell as a 'product' to clients who would value this information. Further, I wasn't thrilled with the early alliance with what I perceive as a rather monolithic AMA. That alliance has since dissolved. Turns out Sermo does have to pay the bills. It does allow clients such as Bloomberg access to physician posting and discussions . See:http://www.xconomy.com/boston/2008/10/23/bloomberg-subscribers-get-access-to-sermo-physician-forum/"Sermo touts the Healthcare Exchange as an exclusive source of information that could help Bloomberg subscribers outmaneuver other investors, by providing them with new “transparency” in an industry where gatekeepers such as journal editors and paid pharmaceutical-industry consultants have traditionally had an outsized influence on investor opinion. “The Healthcare Exchange tears down the barriers between those who need information and those who have it,” Palestrant said in a speech at the Health 2.0 meeting." However, I think there is huge value in Sermo to physicians.1. The clinical discussion forums are educational. 2. I think it's quite possible that a juggernaut of physician critical mass is forming, which may become important if physicians wish to wrest the destiny of the medical profession from those who want only to use patients and physicians as commodities to trade for profit. So, I joined. Guest guest
Jean: A social media is only as good as its members. Unfortunately, trolls are everywhere. Some of the very " nasty " responders are our colleagues-sucks huh! I agree that some of the comments have been nasty and that we should be collegiate to each other and take the high road. Unfortunately, they seem to be gaining more momentum than any other site, and I DO NOT trust the AMA at all. It would be great if they could police the comments a little more, but then you hit the real of " free speech " . I hope they will focus on taking the high road, physicians are desperate for a voice. On another note, anyone heard of the Million Med March? Anyone going? -Sofia > >>> > >>> > >>> I have been a member of Sermo for quite some time and unlike AMA > >>> and subspecialty organizations, Sermo represents the interests of > >>> their members based on polling, and through quality research and > >>> educational efforts. > >>> > >>> > >>> They present a reserved, authenitic and well considered position > >>> on all issues of concern to us as physicians. > >>> > >>> > >>> I strongly suggest that involved physicians and all physician > >>> groups regardless of specialty join Sermo and thereby increase > >>> overall impact on our politicians as well as educating the patient > >>> population. > >>> > >>> > >>> Ferenchak, MD, FACS > >>> > >>> 5695 Bull Hill Rd. > >>> > >>> Lafayette, NY 13084 > >>> > >>> > >>> > >>> > >>> > >>> > >>> > >>> -- > >>> > >>> If you are a patient please allow up to 24 hours for a reply by > >>> email/ > >>> Remember that e-mail may not be entirely secure/ > >>> MD > >>> > >>> > >>> ph fax > >>> impcenter.org > >>> > >> > >> > >> > >> > >> -- > >> > >> If you are a patient please allow up to 24 hours for a reply by > >> email/ > >> Remember that e-mail may not be entirely secure/ > >> MD > >> > >> > >> ph fax > >> impcenter.org > >> > > > > > > > > > > -- > > > > If you are a patient please allow up to 24 hours for a reply by > > email/ > > Remember that e-mail may not be entirely secure/ > > MD > > > > > > ph fax > > impcenter.org > > > > >
