Ravin, it can be depressing to work out to a certain type of exercise

for over a year and not see any weight lost, but actually weight gain.

How are you eating?

Are you eating healthy food?

Do you eat a lot of food with high sodium? Sodium can make you gain

weight.

Do you drink eight glasses of water a day?

Something is hindering you from your weight lost and believe it or

not,it could be taebo.

I am not trying to put down taebo, for after all we all know that

Taebo isn't for everyone.

I have read a health article that stated that exercise can make you

gain weight, instead of lose weight.

staying at 172 to 175 - the scale reads 180. How

depressing. It read

it last week and today. I knew it before stepping on the scale

though

because I can feel it. Maybe this will be the kick in the pants

I

need to do something. Now to figure out what.

I'm sorry the scale is being so mean to you, le! On the other hand, I

am so happy to hear that you are doing taebo again. Do you have the

inspirational tape? I think that is a basic taebo tape which is also at a

slower pace. I bet the scale will start cooperating again now that you are

back to regular exercise.

I don't have the Inspirational - is that one that they sell at

Target/Wal-Mart??? I'll have to look the next time I go to the store.

I have been exercising five days a week but doing Taebo just two

times out of the five. It has to be the food - or lack of. I'm

getting 3-4 fruits and veggies and I know that I have to raise that

number. I have been trying with the water too but I guess I'll need

to try harder. I did quit drinking one Coke a day but when that

didn't move the scale, I stopped. I'll try it again and stick to it

longer to see if that helps.

Gaining weight by exercising???? Jeesh, here I've been thinking of

how big I would be if I wasn't exercising. Well, if what they say is

true that it can make you gain weight - it won't be enough to make me

quit. I have heart disease and strokes in my family - which gaining

weight doesn't help but the exercise does.

I'm going to go in for a doctor's appointment - I just need to

remember to call tomorrow. My ear has been popping on and off for

months and it's not going away. Plus, everyone has been asking me

since this winter if I have a cold because my voice is so raspy and

hoarse sounding. I'm taking Allegra so if it was allergy related, you

would think it would take care of it. Who knows. I was just at the

clinic Monday as my son had an ear infection but when it comes to ME

going for myself . . .

le, who just found out my friend/neighbor who does daycare has a

mom that just was admitted for spinal menagitus (sp?) and if it's the

bacterial form, my family will be going in for a vacination. It's

always SOMETHING!

Yes, that's the tape. I think it's a very doable basic tape.

Plus, a bunch of us here are in it!

OK, uh hem I have to put my two cents in here. If you gain weight with

exercise it is either muscle or you are overcompensating your workout with

too much food. You know...the I can eat a larger meal since I worked out

thinking.

, have you talked to a doctor about your plateau? It might be that you

need to adjust your workout schedule, your eating habits or you may have a

medical condition that is interfering. Despite what the scale says...any

aerobic exercise including Taebo is good for your heart, your immune system,

fights depression and etc. Crosstraining with other programs might be a good

idea just to shake things up, but don't give up!!!!!

Hi guys

A great fact to remember is that muscle weighs four times more that

fat.

For me this means that as I am increasing my lean muscle mass I still

weigh a lot but my body is actually getting into smaller size

clothes, I am in 3-4 sizes smaller clothes than at my 'worst' but

probably only weigh 15-20 lbs less than at that time.

I generally completely ignore the scales (in fact I had a very

liberating " trashing the scales and throw them out ceremony " the

other week :) I also know that my metabolism is increasing so my

fat's " days are numbered "

a,

I totally agree with you! Medical studies have even shown that

exercise helps diminish the risk of cardiovascular disease,

regardless of weight. Some studies even consider that sedentarity

has the same effect as smoking on the cardiovascular system! That

alone is enough motivation for me to exercise!

I also agree with what you said that increase in weight with

exercising is either due to 2 things: muscle gain OR compensated

overeating (which I was the worst victim of :-)

Way to go, Jill, on getting rid of that scale. I really wish I had the power to

do a number on mine. I don't really pay much attention to what it says though,

that's a HUGE accomplishment for me. I probably SHOULD pay attention because

with what I have been doing, or should I say, haven't been doing... it's

probably right on target. Congratulations on all of your success. You are doing

really great!

You, know, I still can't believe it! I don't see myself as a thin

person at all, although everyone around me says that I am. I think

me discovering those pictures the other day has given me all sorts of

emotions (cuz these pics were really scary).

As far as your difficulty in losing 15 pounds, I can only tell you

that everyone loses at a different rate and everybody needs something

different. The Zone diet might be a good idea for you! The

principles are sound and is not too restrictive (unlike Atkins...).

The zone diet is great. When I actually zone

properly, I feel great and I was able to loose the

weight in my hips that would never go away. Let me

know if you have any questions.

WOW! That is so impressive, Janick! You first got yourself back

into exercise after the baby (and prolonged bed rest) and then conquered your

diet with WW. You are such a great role model for us!

I need some something that will help me eat things in the right proportions.

If left to my own devices I would eat a high carb, minimum protein and no fat

diet. The problem is finding recipes that work with the diet. You have to buy

one book that explains it which I have and another that has the recipes which

I don't have. Thank God for E-bay!

I have the book you are talking about!!

Although I'm not ready to sell it, I could send you the list of

recipes by email, and you could tell me which ones you want to try,

and I could photocopy them and send them to you (well, if you want

that is...). Email me if you are interested.

There's nothing wrong with that ! Except that everybody has

different needs nutrition wise. Although I'm not too fond of fatty

proteins, If I don't eat enough protein and fat, I can actually feel

my " brain " slowing down. That's not surprising cuz brain cells rely

on fat and protein for " neurotransmitting " and " axonal transport " .

Thanks Patty I did find a few recipes there but not many. Am I looking in the

wrong place? I bought " A Week in the Zone " and will try to follow it as

closely as possible this week (my best friend is coming for a visit) but know

I will not follow it to the letter.

As I suspected my hormones are off kilter and my ultrasound showed a huge

cyst on one of my ovaries. Since I have been on the pill since I was 17 it

may take a while before they can confirm PCOS (Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome) .

But that is probably what has been reaping havoc on metabolism. I really want

to try and stabilize my insulin levels to see if I can speed up my calorie

burn and find some more energy. From what I have heard the Zone is one of the

best eating styles for people with PCOS.

So here is hoping. Have you followed it for any length of time???

Thanks!

a,

There are quite a few recipes posted by readers. Scroll down on the

home page. I do not follow the zone, but my sister does, and she

swears by it. I was nenver able to get into it.

When I was going through my infertility days, they thought I had PCOS

too. It was a challenge getting my hormones in theright order to

achieve pregnancy, but here I am 3 kids later. Good luck, and if there

is ever anything else I can do, LMK.

I hope that this is what has been causing your

problems and the Zone can help you. Is PCOS cancerous

or is it just a disease?

PCOS is NOT cancer! It is a disease cause by a hormonal " imbalance "

of the hormones produced by the ovaries. Most women initially

consult for infertility (and that's usually when it is diagnosed),

but it also causes weight gain (or difficulty in losing weight),

increase in " androgenic " features (ie increased pilosity on legs,

face, chesg; pimples and sometimes hair loss), fatigue... In long

standing cases, it can cause endometrial hyperplasia (the lining of

the uterus where a foetus would implant itself) that could eventually

lead to endometrial cancer (in very very long standing cases).

Hope this clarifies things!
