Guest guest
Hi, Just wanted to throw out a question hoping to get a few different ways to cope. I'm off to Canberra next week for a conference. There are 2 dinners associated with it. One buffet and a formal 3 course dinner. My 'problem' is that since my last fill I can't eat at night. Everything gets stuck...except thin fluids. Totally opposite to the general banding population who can't eat in the morning...guess I like to be different. Eating and running to the bathroom every 2 mins is not an option. I can't pretend to be sick every night or say I'm not hungry. The buffet is the easier one to cover up not eating. The thought of the dinners is worrying me more than the talk I have give. Any ideas? Kisses Rochelle
Guest guest
HI Rochelle, Can you ask them to do you a soup instead of the full meal? Lots of people have medical conditions or food intolerances which require special diet changes and usually conference planners will accommodate. Guest guest
Bev, Thanks for suggestion. I did think about calling and saying I would like a soup but also don't want to be that different. Stupid I know, I'm still trying to act as normal as possible. Eating a little is acceptable but eating nothing will lead to questions. I also blocked on a hot chocolate last night so the soup may be a problem as well. Maybe when no one is looking I'll slip food into a napkin...then push the food around alot. One lady I've worked with for along time knows when I start playing with food on my plate I'm done, so usually takes it away from me. It crazy...I just sat here and ate a roll for breakfast but can't get anything down at night. I may stick to wine...drink a bottle then no one will notice what I don't eat. Or rather I won't care if they notice or not. Kisses Rochelle
Guest guest
Hi Rochelle, I'm new to this, so sorry if my suggestion is inappropriate. Is it possible to temporarily get a bit of fill taken out? I'd consider doing that if I was going on a holiday - it may not be worth it, though, just for two dinners. The other alternative is to just order what you want, and stuff what everyone thinks. Your needs are just as important as anyone else's, dammit. If anyone's rude enough to ask, just say you're having some " temporary digestive issues " and your doctor suggested fluids only at night. Guest guest
OK ... so here's my suggestion then! Tell them you are on another weird diet where you don't eat after 5 pm but can drink as much as you like - alcolholic and not - and just have dessert. Different does draw attention to yourself - do what I do, pretend to pick and sit next to your work colleague and ask her to swap plates and eat yours too! hehehe And then for the rest - you will be eating through the day, so won't miss out on nutrition, use the evening to up your hydration! lol Bev On Yahoo!7 Avatars: Dress up like your "Dancing with the Stars" favourites! Guest guest
Chriss, It would be nice to get fill out to eat free for a night, but its not worth it. Its not worth the cost or the hassle, beside there isn't time now. There is about a 6 week wait for an appointment for a fill with my surgeon, and the conference is next week. I agree with you about taking some fill out for some holidays. Not all, most you could struggle through, but there some places and situations where I would have fill removed. Unfortunately my bosses are doctors and one would definitely be playing 20 questions if I used the Dr's orders excuse. I guess my dilema is about trying to make it look like I've eaten, more than the eating itself. During the day I'm fine and will not have a problem. I'll just hide the food at the dinners. Chop it up, move it around. I would much rather be tight in the mornings...its a much more socially acceptable situation. Guest guest
Hi Rochelle I really do think requesting a soup to be provided is your best option. I have a friend who has a fantastic figure after having seven children and to maintain her weight on many occasions when she goes out in the evening she will either order a soup or take her own soup. I attended a conference with her at one time when she took her own soup and ate it out of the plastic container! – she doesn’t give a hoot what people think! She rings prior to attending and tells them she has a special dietary requirement and if they don’t serve soup will obtain permission to take her own. I know it sounds over the top but she has been doing this for years and as I previously said she has a fantastic figure. She does not have an eating disorder because I have eaten with her at her home on many occasions and her focus is on healthy eating not unhealthy eating. She home schools the five eldest children (the two youngest are not at school age) and lives on a farm so they all have hearty appetites and she cooks the main meal of the day at lunch time. She just prefers not to eat food after 6pm and if she has to eat after 6pm she will have soup. My point is that some people prefer to eat soups when they are out for a whole myriad of reasons. Guest guest
Ah, Rochelle, that is a bit of a problem (your bosses being doctors)...hmm, that calls for being really creative and other than, say you met up with a friend/relative prior to dinner for a bite and you're no longer hungry (and that's a bit lame because you can't do that twice and anyway you're supposed to be at the conference), I'm a bit stumped. You could very coolly inform them that you always " breakfast like a king, lunch like a prince and dine like a pauper " 'cos it suits your metabolism. Other than that, I suppose you could just tell the truth. They may just be very understanding and supportive.
