Guest guest
FOCUS doesnt provide overnight care...just a few hours 1 saturday per month. do you have home health care coverage thru your medical insurance? if so, you can call family private care and get a caregiver (you choose from nurse or nursing asst or personal care asst). some families have luck posting on craigslist for caregivers. we use family private care and are happy so far. we have a standing 2evening per week caregiver that committed to 6months and has stayed with us for over a year now. for our son, consistancy with caregivers was criticial so we insisted on the 6month committment or dont come at all rule. heres their # > > Hi, > > Does anyone know if there are any places that could take care of a > child with autism for a few nights? Guest guest
Thanks for all the responses. Well, I consider my son high functioning in certain areas, however, he's non-verbal for the most part and his biggest problem is aggressiveness. 85% of the time he's fine and is not aggressive, it's that 15% of the time he could become difficult if you don't know how to calm him down. Thanks. > > > Subject: Overnight care? > To: autism-georgia > Date: Wednesday, July 23, 2008, 3:53 PM > > > > > > > Hi, > > Does anyone know if there are any places that could take care of a > child with autism for a few nights? Guest guest
You can sign up for respite services through GCSS. Once you do the paperwork you can take advantage of respite services which vary from in your home, to someone else's home, to a group home type situation. For example, RRA opens a group home on the weekend in Roswell as well as Jewish Community center.
Guest guest
I am not sure about GA, but in WV they have foster care overnight which can be done for short periods of time without the loss of any of your parental rights. Basically he would go to a certified home of the person who is also trained in special needs care. The mental health licensing board licenses and inspects these homes. Good luck in your seach. There is alos a facility there that does short term respite, they have two 3 bedroom homes separate from the main facility. Guest guest
Hi, I would suggest that you call Parent to Parent of Georgia for free information and referral on all the respite programs available. There are a variety of options. To speak to a coordinator, who can do a search in your area and send you a customized list, the # is or 1-.
