Many people on here - and not just Christians - find that their

religious/spiritual beliefs help them to cope.  For all those

people, religion is not irrelevant.  I have been here for a number

of years, and reading the archives from before I came I notice that

religion does come up fairly regularly.  It is not usual for Bible

quotes to appear, and I'd like to think it will be a long time

before that happens again.  Banning religion would be an easy

solution, but not a realistic one.

I have been asked to ban the topic of vaccinations, because some

people believe that the connection between vaccines and autism has

been disproven.  I haven't done that, because people have the right

to believe or not believe in the connection between vaccines and

autism.  I have had people ask me not to allow posts on certain

procedures because they see them as based on bad science or just

plain wishful thinking.  I haven't done that.  To me,

religion/spirituality is just one more thing people disagree on.  I

firmly believe in as little censorship as possible.  In the real

world we have to live with people with different beliefs to what we

hold.  I don't see that this group should be different.  If we can't

deal with people who disagree with us in a respectful manner - no

matter what the subject - then that is a personal issue.  We cannot

insist that everything we object to be banned.  I have asked for

discussion to be respectful and not personal, and any subject that

comes up connected with autism will be allowed if that happens.

Those rules apply equally to believers and non-believers alike,

whatever the subject being believed/not believed.

It is somewhat ironic that the last time I received a barrage of

emails about being unfair it was because I asked someone to reduce

the amount of religion they included in their posts.

Is it extreme views to be offended by bible quoting

and religious preaching on a group that is supposed to

be for help, support, advice for those of us dealing

with a child or family member with ASD. I am a single

mom of four sons with several medical conditions of my

own, along with my youngest 6yr old son diagnosed 9

months ago with ASD, ADHD,OCD,IED,Anxiety disorder and

tic disorder,i also have a 12 yr old diagnosed with

diabetes 2 weeks ago. This is not support in any form

and it is sad a group for that allows their members to

bring up irrelevant topics that are not supportive in

any way . Very disappointed !

good points . if you think it's bad dealing with children with autism, try being married to one who doesn't think he has a problem and treats his wife like dirt. I am about to be divorced from him. it cannot come soon enough. I plan to frame the divorce decree and put it up on the wall he pushed me up against when I was 38 weeks pregnant as a constant reminder when he walks in to how much of a tool he is.

I have been dealing with a son who is HFA/AS with prosopagnosia for

many years now; he's 31 and has been in assisted living and doing

very well for 10 years. I myself have HCV and diabetes 2. If you

ever need any hints or tips about anything, please feel free to write

me. I have learned a lot since Louie was diagnosed at two and a

half. :)
