We have Netflix and I haven't seen it but now I'm curious lol.

My son is currently dxed with ADHD and Sensory Processing Disorder. We are

having the school do an autism evaluation (high functioning or asperger

syndrome) and he's on the waiting list (6 months) to see a Developmental

Pediatrician too.

Hi,I have watched the show since day one and I love it. I have been able to relate to the parents. I know that Max's character is based on the producer's son who does have Aspergers so I think it's probably an accurate portrayal. I recommend it to any parent with a special needs child. a Prante 

I love any show that brings Autism- aspergers to peoples attention. My son is a lot like Brick from The Middle although no references to Aspergers has been made.

I have watched and still do, I love this show. I did some research on Max and the boy who plays does not have Asperger but is trained by a developmental pediatrician and a neuropsychologist to behave the way he does. There are a lot of instances where I see some of the same behaviors in my 5 yr old son who is diagnosed with ASD. There may be instances when the actor goes overboard but honestly I see a lot of that in my son.

Okay, so I've watched two episodes and I can certainly relate to some of it. My

kiddo was kicked out of preschool for biting

What behaviors were you thinking of as severe? Maybe I haven't watched enough

I'm not sure if my response went through earlier but I have watched the show since day one. The character is based on the producer's son who has Aspergers. It seems to be accurate and I'm sure he is just basing everything by what he has gone through with his son....I have loved it because I can relate to the parents and the struggles of having a special needs child. Every child on the spectrum is different though so some things may not seem accurate when comparing to your own child. I highly recommend the show! a Prante 

I see some of his behavior in my Aspie, but I don't see it anywhere near as

severely as they portray. However, a lot of kids are vastly different.

The child who plays the role isn't actually an Aspie- he's trained with special

education teachers, psychologists, parents of children with Aspies, etc- the

writers and the actor himself takes it pretty seriously.

When you look at it from the aspect that it's a child who isn't an Aspie, and

seeing the level of dedication he has to the role, I think he does a fantastic

job.

Again, yeah, he's not like my aspie. Gillian has her quirks, definitely, but

she's no where near as rigid as Max is. She does require a small amount of

bribery, like he does with his stickers. She does have issues with blurting out

things that are inappropriate. If she doesn't like something, or gets overly

excited, her response is to scream or shriek.

I've watched this show since the first episode. My son is only 8 but if actually

worse then max is. My G has major temper tantrums with transitions, new

situations, if your say no to him, etc. I love the show and I'm so glad they

have something like this pout there to show others what it can be like to have a

child with autism.my G has many dx ..pdd-nos., global apraxia, sensory, anxiety,

ocd, seizures, hypotonia,

I, too, am a big fan of this show. I think it is great to have him so included

in the plot lines. Looking at my own situation, though, I don't understand how

they could have made it through the two's, three's and four's without thinking

something was amiss. (For those of you unfamiliar with the show, Max was

diagnosed in one of the early episodes. )

Anyway, my household was grinding to a halt with my son's behavior issues (which

have thank goodness gotten much better). It's kind of nit-picky of me, I know,

but I just sometimes think if Max is this rigid now, how much more it must have

been when he was younger...

My son was just " quirky " until about age 9. He didn't start having major

meltdowns until then.

I was just thinking of this character, Max, myself. Some episodes I feel like the writers have been spying on me, it's so close to my life. The last episode I watched he " ran away " to the museum, that seemed much more severe than my children have behaved. My opinion is that for " Hollywood " they are doing a decent job. Of course everyone's going to have a different opinion about that.

The events aren't always right on...but the feelings/ emotions the parents feel are spot on. I too would have loved to get out of the house and flee to go back to work at some point like a did (though I never did) but I understand that need to be yourself away from the kids. My son, like Max, once he gets it in his head that we are going to do something/ go somewhere will have a major outburst if it doesn't work out. I don't think he's old enough to think he could get there on his own, but I'm sure that day is coming. I felt Hadie's pain when she was yelling at Max when he came back and she said, "Don't you ever think about anyone but yourself?" I feel like

that too, but I know he cannot help it either. It does not even occur to my son to be aware of others feelings when he's so passionate about whatever it is at the moment. I have also felt the crazy anxiety when I found out I was having another boy. Will he or will he not have AS or another form of Autism. I got lucky. He's typical. But I understand that fear very well and cried right along with her when she found out it was a girl. I too, felt that relief when I found out my other middle child was going to be a girl. I went through that fear twice because my AS child was the first of three. I also understand the thing about Daddy's eggs are different than Mommy's eggs...There is just so much "I get" when I watch this show!! I love

I just watched the pilot - I had no idea this was on until I saw the posts here. I certainly remember being the one to insist to my husband and father in law that "there's something wrong with our boy" and when she said "please don't make me be alone with this" -- and they didn't, they did not let her be alone with it, they heard the reality of what she was saying and had to admit it - that was right on. My boy is much more autistic than this child, to me he seems higher functioning than most of the kids I know, and the other children in his class have generally been fairly sympathetic (some extremely lovely, others more likely to tease and set him off...)Thanks for introducing me to the show - I love the actors and will watch the rest of the episodes.
