Guest guest
Dear Vicki, You sound like you are having a horrible time with your daughter's temper. You don't mention whether she is on medication or not, but I'll throw out a suggestion and you can take it or leave it. My daughter (now 10) used to have a horrible temper as well, and it was the worst part of the OCD thing for all of us. Putting her on an antidepressant helped a lot, but she still got extremely irritable whenever her OCD got bad. Our whole family suffered from it, and I found myself not liking her much at all, which is an AWFUL way to feel about your own child. Her psychiatrist added a very small dose of Risperdal last year (0.25 mg.) and it made all the difference in the world. She is cheerful (usually - but she's a preteen so what do you expect!), gets along with all of us, and is much more willing to work on her OCD issues. We see absolutely no side effects from the Risperdal except that she is a nice person again. Risperdal is an " atypical anti-psychotic " which sounds scary, and I didn't like the idea of putting her on it, but honestly, it was the best thing we've ever done since she got sick. Best wishes, in Nevada mom to Annie (10) with OCD/ADHD/tic disorder, on Celexa, Concerta and Risperdal
