Wow, this mail group is great! It is somehow comforting to know others are out

there dealing with the same things we are! Greg's ocd came out of no where in

the middle of October. We didn't have a clue as to what was going on. Now that

we look back on it, he did have a short episode 3 years ago where he was washing

his hands til they were raw, but it only lasted a couple of weeks and that was

it. I hadn't thought of a shorter school day, that is a good idea and

something I am going to explore. The high school my son attends has 2000

students, so it is quite large. Greg's counselor has been very understanding and

helpful, as well as some of his teachers. We are still trying to keep the

knowledge of what is wrong with Greg under wraps. We are worried that other kids

won't understand and might do something that would make him anxious. Although,

he has told his close friends, and he is very very blessed that they have been

understanding and still persue him to get together with them every day. Greg's

contamination fears are also dealing with avoidance. If he doesn't touch

anything he won't get sick or it will prevent something bad happening to him.

Since being diagnosed and praying for the medication to work, so much in our

house is " contaminated " . Including Greg's dad. So, everything his dad touches is

now contaminated. Is it true, that ocd is inherited? We can think of no one on

either side of our families that has ocd. There may be one great aunt that had a

hoarding personality, but not to the ocd extent. We live in Huntsville, Alabama

if anyone out there is from the area and has a recommendation for a therapist.

We are going to check out our 5th one today. UGH! Anyway, thank you for

responding and letting us know your out there! It helps.
