Guest guest
Have you talked to your daughter's paediatrician about these issues? You need someone with experience in these issues, not just your family doctor.  Hi i am brand new to this group, as of right now we are not GF/CF... My daughter is 5 1/2 and is on the autism spectrum she is also diagnosed with ADHD and a possible mood disorder. I need help! we have been with our family doctor since before she was born (i also have a 7 yr old boy and a 4 yr old boy) and everytime i mention something else that concerns me with Ari i get a "she will grow" "shes just petite" "a lot of kids are constipated" "it will go away on its own" "all kids act like that" and my favorite "dont worry" well i will worry! so i am changing doctors (dont get me wrong hes a good dr but i dont think he sees the big picture, if one year i bring him 3 concerns then 6 mos later another concern and so on he doesent take in to consideration all of the other concerns i have but just looks at what i am telling him at that appointment) so anyways i am changing doctors so hopefully when we have our first appointment and i tell her everything i have concerns with she might be able to put it all together and say wow maybe this is wrong or what not... these are my concerns and i was wondering if any of you could have any suggestions or just some information or can point me in the right direction... >she is on the autism spectrum, adhd >she is sensory defensive >she has been constipated since birth >she would not breastfeed ( i think due to the sensory defensiveness) and also could not take regular formula but had to take soy >she also has huge poops that hurt sometimes and i have found blood in them >she has negitave percentiles in both her weight and height, at birth she weighed 7 lbs 1 oz, at 1 yr - 12 lbs, at 2 - 17 lbs, at 3 - 21 lbs, at 4 - 26 lbs at 5 29/30 lbs >she will eat all of her food, second helpings and any left overs of her brothers and could still eat more >she has eczema >she has molluscum contagiosum warts on her back >she pees in her pants durring the day, not sure if this is sensory related like she doesent feel the need to pee durring the say when she is on sensory overload bc she is fine at night >she has some pretty big meltdowns >she hoards food sometimes in her room or in the play room (will come downstairs in the middle of the night and take peanut butter, fruit, ice cream, pops etc and bring them to her room) if i thought about it longer i could probably come up with more concerns... she has been tested for dwarfism, the celiac sprue test, diabetes, thyroid, and has skin prick tests for wheat and milk allergys all came back negative i am just at a loss she starts school in a little over a week and it really makes me want to scream sometimes that i cant figure this out...any help or suggestions would be great thanks for listening (reading) Jen
Guest guest
Ari's doctor was just a family practice doctor, all of my kids and myself all had the same doctor, i figured since he has an autistic son that he would be a fine doctor for her. He was my dr when i was pregnant for Ari and Blaine and delivered both of them (i had robbie at home) and he took over the kids when they were born as their doctor. I have switched doctors and have an appointment with a pediatrician for all three kids on the 12th of October. My SIL has had an appointment with this pediatrican and seems to like her, all of her kids and herself have a gluten sensitivity, the dr immediatly sent them off to a gastro (something or other) doctor and she is going to do some tests on the kids (not sure what tests exactly) to see about their gluten intolerance so im hoping that she will do that same thing with Ari... I am just hoping that having a pediatrician will help us with her...I am glad that i have a 3 hour block for the three kids for their first appointments because the boys i have no concerns for and nothing really to discuss but with ari i could talk for hours and hours on what i have concerns with
Guest guest
I would recommend joining the Yahoo group Foodlab for the food/digestive issues. The constipation, peeing her pants, meltdowns all described my Aspie son until I pulled all gluten and dairy from his diet along with artificial everything. He hasn't had any major toileting issues or big meltdowns since and that was 3 years ago. Food allergies/sensitivies don't always show up on tests. We did the elimination diet to figure out most of his issues. Good luck. > > Ari's doctor was just a family practice doctor, all of my kids and myself all had the same doctor, i figured since he has an autistic son that he would be a fine doctor for her. Guest guest
My son had the same wart issue for about a year, our doc said it was self limiting, but could last 3yrs or so. A friend recommended a homeopathic remedy(thuja). All of the warts went away in a couple of months of taking thuja twice daily. He had around 30 warts before we started. > > > > Ari's doctor was just a family practice doctor, all of my kids and myself all had the same doctor, i figured since he has an autistic son that he would be a fine doctor for her. Guest guest
I've given my daughter fiber gummies for her constipation. Pedialax sells kids fiber gummies. My son has severe eczema, and we've been using protopic and other stronger steriod creams and vaseline to help with the eczema. Hope you find a supportive team of doctors to help in each area. Sometimes, I had to keep requesting my doctor for referrals to other specialists like the dermatologist or allergists. Take good care, CammieSubject: New to group...To: autism-aspergers Date: Thursday, September 1, 2011, 6:44 PM Hi i am brand new to this group, as of right now we are not GF/CF... Guest guest
I had mega issues with my son too. He would not go to the toilet for 3-4 days and when he went, it was a real strugle. Stools full of blood, the whole bit. I started him on some laxative powder (mixed in his milk) and now he is regular, every day. I am in Canada and the powder I am talking about is called RestoraLAX. I am pretty sure in US (if that's where you live) pharmacies there is something similar. HTH,Eddie I've given my daughter fiber gummies for her constipation. Pedialax sells kids fiber gummies.
