Guest guest
Hi Vicki, What behavior did your daughter display which led to the prescription? Was she aggfressive or self-injurious, or did she have manic behavior? And what behavior is she showing now? Irritability is a possible side effect, but that usually happens only when starting on risperdal or increasing the dosage and goes away after using it for a while. However, I also read that aggression is a side effect for some autistics. Hyperactivity is also a possible side effect for some autisitcs. So, well, it's like it could be the med but it could also be jus ther autism-related irritability symptoms acting up despite the med. Sometimes, risperdal does have paradoxical side effects, but it is also quite possible that it's due to her autism and the med has indeed stopped wroking. I cannot share any personal experiences. While I'm myself an autistic adult and was recently prescribed risperdal (0.5mg twice daily), I've only been taking it for a few days. Guest guest
Our daughter has been on respirdol since she was 2 yrs old. she just went off it to go on serequel. both are antipychotics so cannot be on both at such a young age. I preferr the respirdol and will have her doctor change it back as soon as we see our new doctor in a couple of weeks. serequel seems to not effect her. she is on 100 mgs a day and was on 1 mg 2 times daily of respirdol. I do believe that she is at a point that they need to increase it. the problem with most of these drugs are they become inactive after a while and do our kids no good, or they cannot be on them long with their age being so young. my daughter does not eat so respirdol was a big help in that area to get her to realize she was hungry and would eat. with serequel she is eating hardly nothing at all. Guest guest
Vicki, it did the same for JJ but then came agression and mania. I took him off of it (Very slowly) and then he got mania again. We ended up putting him on zpraxa and I hated to do it but the mania was bad. It helps him sleep good at night but now much else. Guest guest
Hi Betty, 100mg seroquel corresponds to 1mg risperdal, so now with the seroquel your daughte ris essentially on a lower dose than she was with risperdal: she used to be on 2*1mg, and now she takes 100mg once daily (if I read your message correctly), while she hould've been on 100mg twice daily to have the same effect she had with the risperdal. Unless of course you're still in the process of switching her to seroquel. I must say that 100mg is already quite a lot for a child (and so is 1mg risperdal, let alone 1mg twice daily).
