Well, here we go again. My son is at Rescue Crisis again. Last night

and this morning he threatened to kill me and my fiance. He would not

stop screaming until he went to bed and started screaming at 6:45am

this morning. He went for his bloodwork for the Depakote levels and

then to Rescue. I am hoping that his doctor who is on call at Rescue

this weekend will listen to my request of taking him off of the

Strattera, at least to start with. I have made an appointment with his

developmental pediatrician at another mental health provider, but he

can't see him until September 5. With medicaid, my son can't get

services from two different agencies.

I am going to get a second opinion from this other doctor and possibly

a referral to a child psychiatrist at Toledo Hospital. I am about at

my wits end.

No, thankfully I don't have to pay for it. He has Medicaid and what

that won't pay, the Lucas County Mental Health Board picks up.

He just started Depakote ER (500mg) on Wednesday night. He is

considered Aspergers. He can talk pretty good, but has the emotional

level of a 4-5 year old, not 9 years old. That sometimes makes it hard

to know if he truly understands what he is doing or not.

Yes it is. I was told by the staff of the Rescue Crisis Center that

Medicaid would not pay for my son to be in the hospital to wean him off

the meds. I think that is terrible. His meds cost Medicaid over $1000

a month, not sure now with the Depakote just being added. But wouldn't

you think that the government would be happy to not have to pay for

meds that aren't working?

I have another question. I can't remember if someone already said this

or not, but is Strattera a medication that I could stop on my own

without major side effects? I am not sure if the doctor will listen to

me or not, so I am asking you all. I am going to call the Crisis

Center here in a little bit and see if they can tell me what the doctor

said this morning about the medication.

You don't have to wean strattera. Just quit taking it.

yeah, that's true.I know when my son was on adderal ER we just stopped giving it

to him.I think unless its a med that you can take levels on it's not something

that stays in your system long.

Ricky came home this afternoon. So far, so good. We reworked his

reward system and it seems to be working, so far. Thanks to all who

wrote to me and offered suggestions and support. It was greatly

appreciated. Many thanks,
