Hi all,

I have to say, I admire all of you who have been doing the IEP thing

all these years and are still sane. I've been in the IEP trenches only 1

month for Annie (the OCD kid) and 1 year for Ben (different issues) and I'm

close to being involuntarily committed already.

At our original meeting in Dec. for Annie we came up with a list of

ideas that would be easy to implement while waiting for the IEP meeting in

Jan. The teacher has not done a single one of them, except for one thing that

she wasn't doing that was a violation of district policy. When I pointed that

out, she changed her tune. Then the school put off her IEP meeting until the

end of February. Annie continues to have more and more trouble in school. She

hasn't done any work in class since the end of Christmas vacation, has not

turned in any homework, and has failed the two tests they've had since then

(since she didn't have any of the materials at home to study, even though her

teacher signed her take-home folder nightly - without looking in it!!!). Then

on Friday she got a report card. She got an A in academic citizenship, which

is for completing assignments, doing homework, working independently, using

time wisely, etc. At the bottom of the report card was a note from the

principal saying " great improvement Annie! We're really proud!! " All I can

figure is that her teacher is hoping to get out of any accomodations by

pretending there is no problem. Could she be a little more obvious, do you

think??

I am fortunate to have a wonderful therapist (whose husband is a

special ed. advocate) who will go to bat for us. She's going to get a chuckle

out of this latest twist!

Hmmmm....maybe she's passing on " extra credit " or something else in

class. Went thru that with my oldest son years ago when he had

Algebra I. Didn't learn a thing hardly of Algebra, was getting by on

other stuff (a lot of it non-math) that the teacher assigned.

Actually, had a similar situation with him. I'd called a meeting

with him, had a test and a grade printout at home that I forgot to

take to meeting. He was late to meeting as he wanted to bring Rand's

grades (another printout). Lo and behold, that test grade on his

printout was " passing! " I went home to make sure it WAS the same

test, and Rand and I decided he must've wanted it to look good for

the meeting with the guidance counselor or something. I just let it

slide since it WAS to Rand's benefit regarding a grade.

Why are they putting the meeting off when Annie apparently needs

things NOW?!?!
