Hi Sonja,

My name is Melodie. I was 5 years out in June. I went to Dr. K at

about 311 and I weigh about 180 now. I have been down to 160 and

would like to be there again. I weight train 2-3 times per week and

walk or do something aerobic at least 2-3 times per week. I am

trying pretty hard right now to lose about 10 pounds. My desk is

filled with protein bars and the kitchen has protein powder,

carrots, cheese, yogurt and cottage cheese. I am focusing on protein

and trying to eliminate the evil carbs and sweets. ANYWAY,

I have been a regular dentist goer my whole life. Every place their

could be a cavity has been filled. After surgery I went to a new

dentist who examined me and let me look at my teeth on a tv screen.

She said my teeth were very cracked and many needed crowns. My teeth

also started to move. I, like you want to keep my teeth in my head

for as long as possible. I went to an orthodontist (where my kids

went) and he agreed that a brief stint with braces would move my

teeth where they needed to be and a bite gaurd would keep them there

and prevent any more cracking from night time pressure.

Braces only lasted for 13 months. I have only had six of the eight

crowns needed because of the cost. I do wear my retainer - bite

guard religiously.

My labs were low in calcium, iron and vitamins several times over

the past five years.

Would any dentist or orthodontist say my teeth problem were from

calcium loss? No, they wouldn't for sure but it " could be " .

Personally, I think it is. It is one of the changes you learn to

deal with. I haven't heard of many people having teeth problems.

I take my supplements, vitamins, devrom and gas spray where ever I

go. You don't worry too much on whether it is or isn't from WLS. You

make sure you take your calcium and " keep on swimming - keep on

swimming. "

I would have been lost without this group over the last five years.

It has been great to ask quesitons, vent and help others know they

are " normal " for DSer's whatever that is for you.

Good luck!
