Guest guest
Just today another tooth piece fell away for no apparent reason (luckily, among the molars, and not in front). This is the second one in a month. My dentist, who is excellent, and who has been informed from the beginning about my surgery, has promised that he would let me know if he sees any sign of general toot weakening (I'm on a four-month regular check-up cycle with him). He says that since most all my caps and fillings are between 30-40-years old, that some undoubtedly will have to be replaced/repaired in the near future. He is NOT a dentist who would replace them without reason. STILL, this does worry me, because I am determined to keep my own teeth until the end, and yet, I come from a family with genetically weak teeth (I have had LOTS of work done). I try, try, try to keep my calcium intake up, and probably still not taking enough. I'm just curious to know if anyone else has had this outcome, and if they attribute to the GRDS. (I'm 10 months out). Thanks. Sonja Sweek Washington DC GRDS 11/29/06 - 103 lbs and holding
Guest guest
Sonja I have weak crumbly teeth. I do NOT attribute MY problem to the Ds because my teeth crumbled before DS also. I also had loads of OLD dental work that would fall out or break off. I'm not sure your dentist is doing you a favor by waiting for the old dentistry to fail before going in and revising them. When my fillings would fail it would take large hunks of tooth with it. I do think that calcium problems after the DS can lead to dental problems, but if you had bad (weak) teeth before DS you will still have those weak teeth after DS.
