I had this sent to me today. Alternative for wheat grass. Also interesting

to do a google search on " teff " if you are not familiar with it.

So I convinced you that wheatgrass juice would be a

very healthy addition to your diet. But you don't have

a wheatgrass juicer; or a Vita-Mix; or you are not

willing to grow, cut, blend, and strains all that

grass. Now what?

Grow Teff. It is easy with the right tool. Teff is the

smallest grass in the world. And the seed is so small

it will surely fall through the drainage holes in any

of your sprouters. You need a different sprouting

tool.

Terra cotta. Get an unglazed clay saucer about 6

inches across. Soak it in water for 1/2 hour or so.

Put it on a plate.

Pour about 1/2 tsp teff seeds into saucer and mist

with a hand sprayer.

Keep water in the plate (not in the saucer) at all

times. The water will wick through the terra cotta and

provide enough moisture to grow your teff. If the

seeds in the saucer look dry I help it along by

misting them from time to time.

Teff sprouts within 24 hours. It is ready for harvest

in four to five days. It will be 1-2 inches tall.

Green it up by putting it in indirect light for a day.

HOW TO USE TEFF

Here's the easy part. Scoop out the whole mass of

sprouts roots and all. Put it in the blender. Add

1/2-1 cup or so liquid of choice so the blender blades

turn well. Blend it to smithereens and eat as sprout

soup. To make it thicker, add papaya, banana, berries

in season, etc. Flavor with maple syrup, carob,

coconut water; the sky's the limit.

I got my teff seeds from Bob's Red Mill. At first I

though the seed was expensive as shipping cost was a

big part of the cost, but when I see how far the seeds

will stretch, it is one of the less expensive

sprouting seeds.

Comments?

Wheatgrass and Mold

By Carroll J. MacIntosh

You might find this interesting. My father is a retired minister and

he started growing wheatgrass juice in Canada over 14 years ago. It

started out just for ourselves but then we grew to serve many health

food stores and restaurants. We also sold the juicers.

There are a couple things that always bothered us about the juice and

that is the reactions many people (including us) had after drinking

the juice, such as nausea and headaches within seconds after

drinking. We were always told that this was " detoxification " . Then we

had a lady break out in hives all over her body within minutes after

drinking.

We were also told that this was just a strong detoxing symptom.

Howvever we just couldn't buy the story anymore. Nausea and headaches

and especially hives are a reaction to something, not detoxification.

There is no other herb or juice concoction that makes you detox

within seconds with these strong reactions. What we did trace it to

is the mold that grows on the trays. Mold is highly toxic and can

cause instant reactions such as headaches and nausea and even hives.

The mold comes from the seeds that don't germinate, and that is why

some trays are better than others. We tried using hydrogen peroxide

and colidial silver and even picking out the ungerminated seeds with

tweezers. We also noticed that those with candida got much worse

after drinking wheatgrass juice. (Sugar and mold will set it off.)

So after being indoor growers of wheatgrass juice for over seven

years, we decided that we couldn't serve any more knowing that all

the so called detoxing symptoms were reactions to the mold. We shut

the whole thing down.

When I was the sprout mother for an organic raw food company, I had to spray all

the trays with clorox between harvests. Otherwise, they could mold and the

company could lose thousands of dollars worth of sprouts in a matter of hours.

Also, some seeds, alfalfa in particular, carry their own indigenous fungus.

Chlorine was all there was to use. I still use it to clean my sprouting

equipment at home, but I don't have to wear the rubber suit and gas mask, LOL.

Of course they tried that, 35%. Didn't pass health dept. requirements.

LOL, I'm talking about a commercial operation. Acres and acres of trays stacked

almost 18 feet high. One fungus spore from alfalfa could cost $30,000.

It only takes a few minutes for the sun to destroy chlorine.

Dear Starris,

That is because the health department people haven't

the brains of a cat.

Chlorine byproducts are carcinogenic. That is why chlorine

is being phased out as a treatment for water in the US.

Ozone has GRAS (Generally Recognized As Safe) status from FDA

for food preservation and EPA approval for water disinfection.

Soon chlorine will be banned.

Best of Health!

Dr. Ben-ph,

Thanks for your reply to me with the Lugols Iodine drop solution! I

believe that it has helped me. The depression has subsided almost

90%. I still get a little anxious and some anxiety but it seem to

have leveled it out somehow. I feel more connected to my body and the

brain fog has faded some as well.

With appreciation,

Annette
