The weight should be heavy enough that you start to fatigue towards the end of the set. A lot of people are strong believers in pyramiding weights. You start out at a low weight with high repetitions on the first set, medium weight/medium reps on the second set and heavy weight low reps on the third. An example for biceps for me would be: 12 reps -10lbs 10 reps -12-lbs 8 reps -15 lbs If you are new to weights, I highly suggest getting one of Joyce Vedral's books. I follow some of her programs on occasion, but I learned a lot by studying her books that I apply in other workout routines.

Farah, Try going to www.workout.com and see if you can find a weight program that works for you. They have a lot of variations and choices like strength, toning, weight lifting, etc. They also have a beginner's section. Farah, You aren't going to look like a body builder lifting 10 lbs weights! Body Builders lift HEAVY weights for a long time to get the look that they have! I'd say that 10 lbs weights are great to get definition! It just takes a little time to actually " see " the definition sometimes! Hang in there!
