- vioxx

Hi , Just wondering how long you've been taking the vioxx? I too started taking it just for muscle achiness and pain in my legs (that would wake me up in the AM). I only take 12.5 mg, but the kicker is that when I stop taking it (I did stop twice), within a day or two I get super achy in my muscles, knee pain, and the Fevers come back! I couldn't believe it, but I guess the vioxx is helping control that right now. I did take 25 mg for a few days, but I couldn't tell the difference in terms of helping with other aches and pains I regularly have. I did/do have stomach problems though and now I have to take prevacid. My rheum. thinks that possibly the combination of being on pred. and the vioxx did a job on my stomach and caused some acid reflux problems. Have you had to deal with that? I'm on a low dose of pred. too - 5 mg. I thought the interesting thing about the stomach problems was that my rhuem. said that pred. can inhibit your stom Buffalo, NY Visit the Still's Disease Message Boardhttp://disc.server.com/Indices/148599.htmlThe materials and information contained in this message are not intended to replace the services of a trained health professional or to be a substitute for medical advice of physicians and/or other health care professionals. Just jumping in here...Vioxx is one of the cox 2 inhibitors isn't it? In the same "family"

as Celebrex I do believe. I find that my stomach isn't bothered (and trust me...I have

a very "bad" stomach!) if I eat something, then take the Celebrex (along with my other

morning meds) and then eat a little more, so that I "sandwich the meds in between

the food...and then..the biggy..is that I have to sit upright for at least 1/2 hour. If I do

this, my stomach is spared..no problems. If I don't then I get the acid reflux, and the

stomach burning which leads to some "rough stomach" days for awhile. Also, I have

to be careful to not drink much coffee or much sugar or the stomach rebels then too.

Same goes for chocolate.

i switched from celebrex to vioxx when my insurance said I couldn't get celebrex. I noticed an extreme increase in stomach problems since the change but if I dont' take it I hurt really badly.

I thought the interesting thing about the stomach problems was that my rhuem. said that pred. can inhibit your stomach from naturally secreting the protective mucous that helps with acids and then when you add drugs like vioxx, that's when damage can occur. I can't wait to be off prednisone! Anyway, sorry to go on for so long. Glad you're feeling pretty well. Take care....................Buffalo, NY

Havent noticed an extreme problem with the vioxx as yet,so vioxx is cheaper than celebrex huh.Does the vioxx otherwize provide the same relief that celbrex did?Just the really upset stomache would be enuff to really piss me off esp if the celebrex worked.I dont really know why my doc prescribed the vioxx instead of celebrex, but it does work for me.I went without it today wasnt too bad,but could notice the difference, maybe it will get easier it was barable.Take care. d.Canada ---- Original Message -----
