Guest guest
Twelve month minimum, and thereafter sparingly. We will be overly alcohol sensitive the rest of our lives. One of our list members had a few sips of a beer and got a DUI. The alcohol goes into our system almost immediately. Is this correct or is it longer?? Thanks for the information.

Guest guest
You have already received to excellent responses on alcohol. 12 (or during the weightloss phase which can easily last 12-24 months depending on the person.) The reason for not drink during that time period is: Being obese is extremely hard on the liver usually causing fatty liver disease. Then add to an already stressed liver...weightloss is extremely hard on the liver. Your liver labs will reflect this..your liver will be stressed during the weightloss. So adding anything like alcohol to the liver is asking for trouble. You can't live without your liver...so don't test it. After the weightloss period has passed if you have an occasional drink you probably will be ok...however. Alcohol will hit your blood system faster at lower amounts and will stay longer. Do not think you can have that one drink and go ahead and drive. Just don't do it, a court of law won't care that you had wls and didn't know you could get drunk that easy. Alcohol poisoning can happen in a flash...Bottom line...if you drink post DS...do so sparingly. I will admit..I drink...socially. But I'm not very social! lol. I might have 3 alcohol containing drinks a year, never more than one at an event and I rarely finish the drink. lol...in other word I " drink " just like I did before the DS. You know Alcohol can cause Cirrhosis of the liver. Post DS this can happen with much lower levels of alcohol. Hugs Jo
