my bout with the ER

Hi everyone, I had to go the emergency room the other night, thankfully my husband was here. Im still not sure what was the problem, I have had irritable bowel syndrome for many years and that afternoon I had another bout with it, usually it only lasts a few hours but this time the pain in my lower intestines was unbarable and 12 hours later I gave in and went to the ER. I was worried that maybe I had twisted my intestines or something. Anyway, ab out two weeks earlier I had a urinary tract infection and I was on macrobid for that and i was still having some pain with that. well the er doc did a pelvic exam and he was convinced that I had pelvic inflammatory disease caused by a STD. well I told him that it was impossible for me to have gonnhrea, chlamadyia or any STD but I had no problem with him testing for it, what made me mad is that he was convinced that was the problem. and nothing to do with irritable bowel. I was so sick I didnt feel like arguing, he did give me some Bentyl which helped the bad cramping. also when he did the pelvic he found an erosion on my cervix, he didnt tell me about this, he only told me to follow up with my gynecologist and do a pap test within a few weeks, but when I went to get a copy of the results on the tests this info about the cervical erosion was on there. Ive done some reading it it seems to mainly assosiated with genital warts but can also be caused by trauma or urinary tract infections. well all the tests for std's came back negative as I thought even my urinalysis culture didnt grow anything, but I had alot of protein, red blood cells and nitrates in my urine. So I took this to my regular doc and he thinks that my pain and diarrhea bout was just a bad case of irritable bowel since my symptoms were exactly the same as all other times, and what this er doc saw was from the urinary tract infection, he thinks that the enbrel had lowered my ability to fight the infection even with antibiotics and that it probably spread to my cervix.

The ER doc gave me a shot of rocephen, and a gram of zithromax and a week of flagyl, which my regular doc said would have cleared up any remaining bacteria from the urinary tract infection but he said I had to have a pap soon because a cervical erosion can be indicative of cervical cancer cells so I will be having the pap on july 30th, Has anyone here ever had dealings with cervix problems or abnormal paps, or should I say any of the ladies?? LOL..

There is also the chance that I have endometrosis, and that sometimes my irritable bowel may be the endometrosis. but the only way to diagnose it for sure is to have surgery and Im not willing to do that yet.

My husband had already left to go back to Korea and our dog is going through another depression. That's about all of my news recently, it's been a hectic week, my parents came down also and they just left so I finally have some peace and quiet and time to be on the computer, hopefully my new laptop will come this week

take care everyone

Love

, I have had bouts of Irritable Bowel that were that bad. Once time the Dr's. were convinced it as appendicitis. Finally I got to a Dr. who precribed a stomach relaxer when it happened and also got me to go lactose free. Now if I eat cream cheese or sour cream, I had that bad of a pain. He also said a lot of red meat could irritate it and it does.....

Hi ,

Your trip to the ER sounded like a nightmare, I wish it had been a

dream! I read a year or so ago, in an article from a nursing journal to

which my daughter subscribes, that 79% of the pap test results that

returned unfavorable results AND then were repeated at least twice

returned normal findings each time. This was a study group containing

600something women between ages of 18 and 55 who had no previous

history of bad pap test results. I thought that very interesting

because many of my friends and myself had dealt with the anxiety of pap

test results that were not good and only a few actually had a problem

that required medical intervention. My sister had some type of

corrosion/wart thing on here cervix that she had frozen several times,

including a cone biopsie once. After completing her family with four

uncomplicated pregnancies she had a hysterectomy at age 47. They found

some weird fluid filled ovarian cysts and endometriosis which explained

some sever pain she had experienced for so many years. This being a

women thing gets pretty painful sometimes!!

These darn computer problems sure leave us feeling stranded when we are

so used the convienence of the computer! Hope the lap top is fun and

problem free! Take care, Louise.
