Hi all,

Just me venting again! (UGH!!!)

Do any of you have kids that repeatedly go to the nurse's office, saying they

have a belly ache, diarhea, etc, when you know there is nothing wrong with your

child, and the nurse insists you come get him?

My son has been doing this all year and when I get him home he's fine. You would

think the nurse would know by now I'm doing him more harm than good by picking

him up.

When I was a kid, we had to have a fever and be vomitting with non stop diarhea

to get sent home! Not just say they had it one time!

Sorry, just needed to vent

Hugs

Judy

I work in an elementary school office. We only have a nurse once every 2

weeks and a nurse's clerical assistant twice a week. That means we (the

office manager and secretary) often act as nurses. If a parent tells us

they think their child may not really be sick and they want them to stay at

school we're fine with that. There are certain kids that are what we call

" frequent fliers " and we only send them home if they have a fever or if

we've seen them vomit. I'm amazed at the number of kids we get in the

nurse's office who say they vomited in the bathroom. They never seem to

vomit in front of anyone.

What I'm saying is that if you think your child isn't really sick, talk to

the front office of health office staff and tell them what you think.

Chances are they think the same thing, but don't want to presume a child is

faking it. One of those frequent fliers occasionally come in complaining

that they don't feel well. We send them back to class and then they vomit

all over their desk. You just never know, so it's better to err on the side

of caution and just call the parents to come get the child. On the other

hand, if a child figures out they aren't going home unless they have a fever

or are witnessed throwing up, they will quit coming to the office unless

they are REALLY sick.
