Guest guest
Dan E... I don't do heat well either. I get very panicky when it gets hot therefore I do not go anywhere if I know it's going to that way. Humidity is the same. I've missed many fun occasions because of the hot/humid weather When I was going through school in Palm Springs, my father would pull me out early because of the heat and we'd head back to Michigan for the summer. I always missed a few weeks going back also as we'd wait for it to cool down a bit. I had a sun stroke once in my teens that really scared me so now I stick close to home and the air-conditioner. Just don't indulge in those Kansas City meals where they use the "extreme" hot sauce !!!!! Keep some O'Douls in the fridge also !!! ) Carmen
Guest guest
Dan, I am the exact opposite, as anything that causes me to cool down too fast gives me a wicked case of the chills. I remember being on a 16 mile road march while at Fort Benning in Georgia...it was almost 100 degrees out and we were in full combat gear.....it started to pour and the temp went into the 70's in a matter of minutes. I remember a "foil" blanket and waking up feeling like I was freezing to death. Apparently, I just laid down and started to shiver. I don't remember much of it. I was told I had hypothermia, and in a matter of hours I was fine. This has happened to me by getting in a pool that is much colder than the air. At least with the pool I was able to get out, than sat in front of our propane heater for an hour. The hot temps bring out the best in me, as I feel great (or should I say I used to) and have energy to burn. In the winter I am a miserable SOB, as I hate the cold. Have a good one, Kirk. HEAT Question?? I am wondering if the heat and hot weather bothers everyone as much as it gets to me. Even before I was diagnosed with this Still's diesease, I did not do heat and hot weather very well. But now it seems to just absolutely wear me out. As I recall, I never never really seemed to be able to cool down very well. I always reverted to doing something like soaking my hat in water or something like that to try and cool down. Now I am wondering if it is the Still's that this is a part of. Now not trying to be gross or anything, but I never really did sweat normal I think. I never would drip at the arm pits and such. My forehead though would look like Niagera Falls, no kidding. This has always been this way for me, not just since diagnosed. But then who knows, I probably always have had a touch of this Still's stuff, but was fighting little battles with it all along. Anyway, I guess this heat situation is one big reason I love living in Montana. Oh it gets hot here like it is now, but it does not last forever like some places I have lived and visited. So early in the morning I am headed for the airport and fly to Kansas City for a week. A week of hell in the heat and humidity I would guess. Anyway, if the heat bothers you as much as it bothers me, I hope you have a nice cool place to be at. I will be trapped in meeting rooms all week, I can only imagine just how hot and stuffy they are going to be, or at least seem to me. Maybe just maybe, the wind will be blowing as usual in Kansas, and I can go stand in the breeze and cool off. I should pack me little bitty fan that you can put in your pocket. And a few extra batteries to make it go. I love that little personal fan. What a investment it was for only a dollar. I just hope the little buzzing sound it makes does not disturb the others much. I do much better with the wind in my face. I really should just go buy another motorcycle and get on it and run away, put the wind in my face and hit the road. Maybe that is how come I loved that old open cockpit biplane too. LOL. If I were reincarnated, I'd want to come back a buzzard. Nothing hates him or envies him or wants him or needs him. He is never bothered or in danger, and he can eat anything. Guest guest
Morning "Mountain man Dan," About the heat...I am the same way. Humidity almost drives me crazy. I will ask Dennis most days lately (we had a lot of cooer days until a few weeks ago) does it feel really warm to you? He usually says "no." So, then I know..it's just *me* again! We went out to eat diner with some friends yesterday. I made the reservations as the place usually has a lot of tourists this time of year, and waiting for over an hour is common. I asked specifically for a table in a certain area..away from their windows where the sun beats in. (even with the blinds drawn) We got a really good spot. The air conditioning was on, and I was in heaven! A couple of them put sweaters on they had brought along "just in case." If I feel too warm, I start to feel real sick, and I get totally exhausted, and can't think straight. Many people here in Wisconsin love a hot...very hot day. They love to go to the beach or sit out in the sun. If I go out in the hot air (or if it gets too warm inside) I can't breathe well. I can feel the Costo coming on rapidly. Guess I would like the mountains. (I got to choose where to sit because Dennis payed the bill and we were married 34 years..so I didn't feel guilty choosing a "cool" spot.) Take your little fan along Dan. Try not to worry about the noise bothering someone else, if you are like me when it's too warm and stuffy yet too...you need to not feel like you are smothering. Tell the others that you have a health problem and you need your little fan in order to not feel like passing out. Have a safe trip there & back! Wisconsin, Tricia -- HEAT Question?? Guest guest
Kirk, Just goes to show ya that this darn Still's is one weird disease. Got to admitt one thing here, the cold used to not bother me much at all, but now when it gets colder than 20 below zero, I kinda do not do well in it. Glad there are not all that many days that are colder than 20 below zero. Dan
Guest guest
Lori, Ah ha !!!! There is a pool just a few steps from my room here in Kansas City. Yep, just checked and I packed the swim trunks. Sounds like a good idea to me. I guess I can say there is comfort in knowing that this heat problem thing is not all mine alone. Thanks Dan
Guest guest
Carmen, I am sitting right next to the airconditoner here in the room. It is on as cold as it can go. If I could only just stay right here and not have to go out in the heat. I will check out the bar and see if they serve that nasty old O'Douls. Nothing within real close walking distance, I ventured out and about croaked off in the heat. Hey this might be a great new diet, YES? I will start rationing out my jolly rancher fire stix candy. Oh and there is a bag of desert mints, so I will ration out a desert mint or two also. Dan

Guest guest
Cara, My dream girl. One that sweats nothing !!!!!! This heat intoleration thing MUST be somehow tied to Still's. Oh know what?? I do remember sweating. YES when I was in the hospital trying to croak off. Yes, sweat all over, bed drenching sweat. How could I ever forget that?? And the situation stayed around for some time, even after went home. Ah, the night sweats. How could I ever forget that. My gosh, I think my mind has been affected. Guest guest
, You are right. We do put up the old swamp water cooler. It will knock the edge off EXCEPT when it is humid weather. Thank god the humid weather days are very few in Montana. I do believe there are maybe more days that are colder than 20 below zero than there are hot humid days. Hummmm, maybe I should change complaints here. Dan
Guest guest
Now, I'm just the opposite I think. Everytime it gets cooler, I start feeling worse. My office can get real cold sometimes and it just goes thru me. I go walking outside just for the heat - and in south Florida it is HOT HOT HOT! In fact, we now argue about the air conditioning at home which is very new. I used to be the one who wanted it cool, now I'm dying when it get too cool. When I get too cold I just step outdoors and I'm all better for a while. Dan, you just described my whole life! Never handled the heat well and I do believe it is Still's related. Even as a little kid on the days it was in the 90's I would feel wiped out, sick to my stomach and I'd end up having to lay down. It now brings out my rash quite a bit, and elevates my temp. even more. FUN when that happens! I think its probly different for every one, but for me I think it is the stills that differentiates me from the others, where they just feel sweaty and lazy, I actually get sick from it. Every summer is a challenge, but hope we all get through it! Thanks for writting in about it, good to know its not JUST me. Take care, stay cool, take a dip in the pool...
