Guest guest
I heard something on NPR about that study. The study was done with intensive child-find. They screened EVERY child, not just those who were presenting with some related concern. If I remember correctly, they did not believe that South Korea actually had a higher autism rate than the US, and hypothesized that if the same kind of comprehensive study was undertaken here in the US, the numbers would be similar. Here is a NYT article about it.http://www.nytimes.com/2011/05/09/health/research/09autism.htmlAnd this one from the Boston Globe has a few thoughts on if the number can be considered accuratehttp://www.boston.com/lifestyle/health/blog/dailydose/2011/05/higher_autism_r.htmlSent from my iPad That is interesting about South Korea having a 1 in 38 autism rate compared to 1 in 110 in the USA. That actually fits in with the theory of processed free glutamate, as an abundant food additive, causing or aggravating autism. South Korea appears to have both the highest reported rates of autism and the highest reported dietary consumption of free glutamate/MSG. For comparison, the amount of free glutamate added to the American food supply is estimated at 0.55g/d, while in Korea it's reported as 1.57g/d.
