Hi ,

I have a 19 yr. old daughter with OCD/BDD and she is currently in New

Orleans with her school group helping with the re-building. She has

skin picking - mostly her face re. acne (even though she has very

little) She also was cutting when she was about 15...fine, neat even

lines and some self-tatooing (small, unobtrusive forms)

She has recently told me that the recent zoloft increase (to 125 mg)

has improved(slowed down) her skin picking...she is finally able to

gain perspective and perhaps some sense of control.

(she was on Lexapro before)

She is therapy resistant - and I worry that she self-medicates with alcohol.

Her self- harm that imerged a few years ago seemed to mostly be

related to anxiety management...and of course, what she reflected

from others.. I see the contagion of cutting often at the school

where I work.

just some ideas,

Alice

Val, I've always felt it was separate from OCD. But it's just not

uncommon for some who cut to also have OCD or OC behaviors too; I guess

one of those comorbid things.

It is. It is a compultion. My daughter doesn't cut she just gets

fixated on her skin and cannot stop.
