Guest guest
We started the inositol at about 4 grams in my 11 year old already on fishoil. He was also on zoloft and we decided we would do inositol every other day and zoloft every other day (on alternating days) and eventually switch over to just inositol due to the side effects we were having with zoloft. Well, what we found was that the inositol worked exactly the same as zoloft, with the same side effects for $100 a month rather than $5. I wish I could say differently because the idea of the natural stuff sounds better to me and it clearly did have good effects but seems that increasing seratonin in my son is increasing seratonin- no matter how you cut it , it is going to make him wild and impulsive and inappropriate. We have chosen the bad side effects for $5 for now. Still hoping to get off someday! Oh well...
Guest guest
Hi Barb, I started OmegaBrite about 3 weeks ago (also a behavioral plan to help with the " rages " ) and my little guy is a LOT calmer. I don't know if the OmegaBrite helped him access the plan or if it was the plan, but I'm going to keep on the OmegaBrite! Dana
Guest guest
That's great Dana! Our son had been taking 2000mg omega 3 for I don't know how long. Wish I could report the same effect. We don't really have what I would call rages though, more aggressive behavior. For the moment his getting back on just 10mg of celexa seems to have taken the " edge " off. Hope your son continues to do well. Sometimes it's hard to know what is helping, isn't it? Guest guest
My 16 yo son is off meds & I'd like to get more info on supplements. I've just started giving him a mult-vitamin, but I'd like to know more about Omega 3 (6,9?). I've taken a B-complex, & sublingual B-12 myself in the past & I think it's helped. I also purchased St. 's Wort, but never used it or gave it to my son. We both have OCD & Depression, but he also has BDD. I'd like to know how/why the Omega's work for us, how much of a dose to give, and how all these can be safely used in combination with one another. Now that he's taking his mult-vitamin, I'm not sure if he can also safely add the B-complex? I'm trying to keep this all from being too confusing and trying to keep it simple. Thanks! Guest guest
Hi Jackee - For info on the Omegas you might be interested in a book I'm reading: LCP Solution: The Remarkable Nutritional Treatment for ADHD, Dyslexia, & Dyspraxia by Stordy PhD. It talks about long chain polyunsaturated fatty acid supplementation (LCP) being beneficial for people with learning disorders--helps them with mood/be calmer, more focused, easier to teach, etc. They also mention foods rich in Omega 3's and 6's in addition to various supplements. Several case histories presented in the book of children who really improved after taking the Omegas, studies at Purdue University, etc. We haven't used St.'s Wort alone but as part of a herbal drop supplement (Mind Soothe Jr. from Native Remedies) which my son has been taking for the past year. It helps with depression and OCD. He also takes magenesium (Kid Calm) and Nordic Naturals Cod Liver Oil (Omega 3's, 1 tsp daily). He is getting Omega 6's in quite a bit of the food he eats (the book I mentioned is helpful for this info). He isn't on any prescription meds. jackee7171 wrote: My 16 yo son is off meds & I'd like to get more info on supplements.
