Hi Joyce,

Congratulations on your approval for the revision. Plus Dr.K is the best!

I have a question. My friend just had the RNY last November. She was

my support person when I had the DS. She chose the RNY because of her insurance.

So far she has been doing fine. But I have heard so much negative things about

that

surgery.. I know everyone doesn't have the same results..But I am concerned

about her long

term weight loss.. Do you mind telling me what your experience with the RNY was?

Good Luck !!!!

Thanks !

You are absolutely right…everyone’s results vary with not only

the ERny but all surgeries.  My experience has been awful, sprinkled with a few

days of being thrilled over my huge weight loss!  LOL!  It’s like, “Dang!  I’m

in a size 2 but man o man I have explosive poop and will probably ruin the

outfit!â€Â  ….TMI, right?  Sorry!  But…I’ve often felt like I sold my soul to the

Devil to get thin.

Your friend will probably be fine.  Most Erny’s (aka Distal) are

100 plus with their common channel.  Mine was just 50.  I know that many DS’ers

do fine with a 50 but it was overkill for my system.  I’ve also been told by

other patient’s of the same surgeon that when opened up, their 50 was actually

much shorter!

Just have your friend stay hooked up with Vitalady and keep

those supplements rolling in.  Focus on the protein and stay clear of the junk

(same recipe for all of us, right?!  LOL!) and she’ll be fine.

…..but, if she has problems then you and I both know a great

surgeon we can steer her towards!

Joyce,

Thank you for your answer reguarding the RNY. I know my friend didn't have the (distal) RNY..

One thing I do know is she isn't keeping up with her vitamins..I don't know what the post op life is after

the RNY? So I don't know if the vitamins are as important for her as they are for us DS people?

:)

The Rny list isn’t as long but the need for multi’s, B12,

calcium citrate, c, iron plus a few others; depending on labs….is AS important

for any Rny as it is for the DS’ers.  Deficiency hurts all of us.

Maybe you could invite her to one of Vitalady’s stopover get

together’s on her Vita tour.  You can get the details on her website.  That’s a

low key and FUN approach to teaching/learningJ
