What is 'panko'? And what is 'bird's nest'? Is it that Chinese dish with the

actual nests with bird saliva? (Please pardon me for being ignorant.)

Hi. Here's a link to what Panko breadcrumbs are. I buy the Kikkoman box. Cost me

$1.59. You'll find it where you buy breadcrumbs in any supermarket.

I'll be back in a bit to post a link to my video on what I call bird's nests.

Hi Again.

Here is a link to a video I made of what I call " Birds nest patties "

The first few seconds of the video shows how I make the yogurt dressing to put

on top of the patties. The rest of the video ....well watch it and your mouth

will drool. they are THAT good.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UftiRqLCvw8

And I can assure you it has nothing to do with birds saliva. It's all GOOD!!

Enjoy

Bethany,The Birds Nests Melody refers to are her own delicious creation. She

will demonstrate in one of her upcoming videos her revised edition of the recipe

(she has a video of her making them on youtube, but she has since revised

it).She is using Japanese Panko, which is a Japanese form of breadcrumbs. The

Chinese birds nests you refer to are completely different and are in factreal

birds nest. I was in the Asian market today and was standing in front of a

display of those very nests! I had loaded my cart up with gorgeous baby Chinese

broccoli, eggplant, and some herbs. Everything looked so fresh and green. Not

organic, unfortunately, but one day maybe that will change.:) nsipping a

You were in an asian market and you saw actual birds nests?? People eat these

things, really? I have LOADS of asian markets near me. I have to go out

tomorrow and try and find one of these birds nests. I want to see what they look

like. Why on earth would people eat them?

Melody,The Chinese birds nests are greatly valued by the Chinese for over 1000

years. They usually eat them in soups for their nutritional value. The little

birds make the nest with their saliva. They were boxed in the market and in the

special section of the market that sells chinese medicine and special, expensive

products. You might see Shark's fin soup nearby--that's another specialty. If you

google " Chinese Birds Nest " and look under images, you will see a photo of one.

They are small and do not resemble any of the common birds nests we see here in

the US.Your birds nests patties made from mung bean sprouts is far more

appealing to lol:) n

Don't birds nests also have bird poop in them? I believe I'll take a pass.

well it is likely that they do, but between the parent birds (which I think are

swifts or swallows), and the Chinese person who prepares the nest for

consumption, I think the poop is removed. When my budgies had babies, they were

excellent little nest cleaners. Poop, feathers, unhatched eggs, you name it, got

tossed out of that little nest.Just the same though, I will pass on the real

bird's nests and stick to Melodys.I also noticed the soy bean and mung bean

sprouts at the Chinese market today--I prefer my own now. Much fresher!:)

And here I was wondering what to do with the 4 eggs a day my chickens lay, LOL.

Thanks for the video, this looks like a great breakfast or lunch. In fact, I

spent quite some time just going through your channel, Melody, and am

particularly grateful for the hull removal video and then spinning video. I

have a zyliss salad spinner around here somewhere (I swear I HAVE to get

Thank you, Melody, for the video on bird's nest patties.

http://www.youtube. com/watch? v=UftiRqLCvw8

I tried it today and loved it. I also tend to make changes. I added radish

sprouts and mixed grain sprouts to my patties. I am sure this is something I

will eat once a week and I will probably try all kinds of different sprouts with

the mung beans. I will look for the Panko bread crumbs to try that also.

OOOH, that sounded delicious. I am now making broccoli with the Panko, my

kitchen smells to die for.

I also used my new electric knife to try and cut through a winter squash.

DIDN'T DO A THING TO THE SQUASH.

So I guess I'll use it for other things, but not for my winter squash.

Oh woe is me. I have to use a meat cleaver on these squash.

I have a Chinese meat cleaver for cutting squash and young coconuts. Just be

really really careful with your meat cleaver.

I like my electric knife for slicing vegan roasts nice and thin at thanksgiving.

I'm trying to imagine the expression on my husband's face if I came in the house

wielding a meat cleaver.
