Guest guest
Yerba Mate: On the 8th, a question was posted about Yerba Mate. I have a feeling it sort of got lost in the midst of the flames. I did some searching in the group, and found this link that will help me experiment with brewing with Mate (which is something I've wanted to do): http://www.happyherbalist.com/herbal_teas.htm#Yerba%20Mate Legal question: Backstory: When I was a beginning brewer, I gave away a scoby, starter and detailed instructions to a gentleman who I'm afraid was not a very good listener, and quite possibly didn't want to " waste " his time reading my warnings and instructions. Consequently, the very first batch he tried to brew developed mold. I'd been careful to never give identifying info to anybody I gave scobies to, for fear of legal repercussions. I cut off communications with him, because in his emails it seemed he wanted to blame me for the way his brew turned out. (For what it's worth, I have yet to have a moldy scoby. It may still happen, though.) After that, in a fit of paranoia, I had my name removed from the Worldwide Kombucha Exchange. Anyway, I guess my question is this: can somebody try to sue you for giving them a scoby that, through their poor handling, develops mold? Would a lawsuit stick? What else might happen? And how do you group members, who give away scobies, deal with inattentive recipients? Thanks, Ariel in Salt Lake City, UT, USA
Guest guest
Hi Ariel, Thanks for the question. I too am beginning to wonder about the problems I could have when shipping a Scoby. I know there are some people that just don't get the mold issue and do silly things like just wash off a scoby and use it again for another batch. My biggest concern is that ignorance will come back and cause Kombucha brewing to become illegal. Any lawyers on here that could help us out with an answer to our question?
