Guest guest
Jo, you are right. I did look at a couple recipes after the Mennonite recipe was posted, and they were all different, and they were in Mexican cook books. I only took what I tasted and looked at when Marta ate it at s and made my version of it. I liked it, and that was who I was making it for in the first place. We all have such varied taste buds. I love hot, hot, hot, but I can't fix it that way for my daughter, so I have to just add tons of Tabasco later. I use Tabasco like some people use salt and pepper. I seem to think it has to go on everything. I came home from my DS and had scrambled eggs with Tabasco. My brother was concerned, I said, I am not going to get these things down if I don't have something on them. It didn't cause me any problems, so for some I know it would have probably made them think they were dying. Of course they probably would not have handled it before surgery like I do. I love jalapenos, but hate cilantro. My sister eats cilantro by the handful. She will actually take a handful of it and put it in a tortilla and eat it. Grosses me out. I love Mexican food, just leave the cilantro out. I love the shrimp cocktails, which you got me hooked on, but again, no cilantro. Lots of avocado. I have one brother that claims avocado is slimy, now how anyone can think that I have no idea. I know you like it too. I learned about the cilantro and cumin thing from Ray and mentioned it to my sister and she acted like I was dumb for not knowing it all along. I learned several little things from Ray. For one thing she calls a mixture that is between a stew and a soup a stoop, which I was calling it that way before she was even born. My kids were raised up hearing me call it that. I thought I made up the word. I had never heard it. I wonder where she got it from. I know I made it up for my kids benefit. My kids are all older than she is. My baby is 41 and knows she has never known it to be called anything else. It was not something I had heard anyone else say until one day I turned her show on and heard her use.I about fell out of my chair. She even described it the way I did. I like the fact she doesn't measure exactly. I don't. I know that each of us has to season to suit our own taste buds. Also I like soups and stews really thick. I like to get a spoonful of something, not just broth, so I add more than recipes call for. I have a jillion cookbooks, and don't use them. I just like to read them. When is the auction and let us know how much your son went for. I am sure it will be for a lot less than it should be. He just sounded like he would be a fun date. I still love his song.
