Guest guest
I have been growing wheatgrass successfully but on occasion I get a fuzzy growth toward the bottom of the grass. I assume this to be a mold or fungus. I grow with medium vermeculite, kelp fertilizer and in trays with no drainage holes. I don't over water or swamp the grass. Please help!!! Also is this the best cost prohibitive way to grow.
Guest guest
Drainage holes may help although if you don't overwater it should be ok without them. I almost always have mold when I do wheatgrass. Others have said good air circulation is essential-have you tried using a fan? I've grown when it was relatively cool and almost always developed mold. Others have said, as long as it is washed well before juicing, it shouldn't be an issue. I've pretty much given up on growing mold free wheatgrass. I've emailed the wheatgrass trucker-see youtube, re mold issues and he has none. He uses small amounts of soil on cookie sheets so the roots get a lot of air. I've also used peroxide and citricide in my water, and still have mold. It's also very dependent on the location/ room/ furnishings where you grow the grass. Best of luck.
