Maybe it was a bit of a flu bug also because I'm still achey and tired, Might just be a coincidence that it happened when I was in the heat or maybe the heat just brought it out. Guest guest
Doc K. told me before my DS surgery that after surgery that I would have a problem with getting cold. I think it is that we no longer have the fat to insulate us. I know I get cold a lot easier. I used to sleep without a blanket even in the winter, not now. I don't remember exactly what we were discussing when he told me that I would get cold a lot easier, but I distinctly remember it. I just assume it is because of not being so fat. Maybe we need to ask him at one of the meetings if that is what it is. When My air conditioner went out and we spent 3 days with no cooling, She couldn't tolerate being in my house(she is still SMO) I was ok with just fans, as long as there was a little air circulating I was ok. It is just the direct sun that affects me. Mel ************************************** See what's new at http://www.aol.com

When I get cold it is usually my feet first. I have always had cold feet(Just ask Tom..LOL) but now it is everywhere. I guess that makes sense because preop my feet were not fat, so there was little insulation there unlike the rest of my body. I guess being encased in 170+ lbs of blubber would make anyone hot natured. Guest guest
What I developed was a hypersensitivity for cold. I love heat now and I hated it before. Perhaps you have/had a touch of the stomach flu as well, I had that a couple of weeks ago and it came on just as you said your spell came on. I slept almost around the clock for two days. _____ From: DS_Friends_Keshishian [mailto:DS_Friends_Keshishian ] On Behalf Of MDL1031@... Sent: Saturday, September 29, 2007 11:48 PM To: DS_Friends_Keshishian Subject: Heat intolerance Anyone notice that since surgery they become more sensitive to heat and dehydration? Today we hosted Midsouth band festival and I was scheduled to work in the pizza booth from 3-6. Well, I sat in the heat for 2 hrs before the shift and worked about 1 1/2 hrs and got dizzy, started having abdominal cramps, and threw up followed by a severe bout of diarrhea(all in a public restroom!!) Anyway I composed myself and sat on the potty until I could stand without seeing white(does that make sense?) I called and he took me home. I was having chills and finally started feeling more like myself after 20 minutes in the car. But have slept all afternoon. I am thinking that I just got in the sun and overheated. Especially with the Abdominal cramps and vomiting, but does the diarrhea sound like heat exhaustion? I also pondered maybe a blood sugar issue but I had not eaten carbs prior to the shift and actually ate 1./2 a grilled chicken salad from chic- fil-a so I don't think that was it. So I am leaning toward heat as my culprit. Guest guest
One of my chief joys now is to get in the car. I have black interior and it is always so overly warm and toasty. I love coming out of class and getting in the car and all that heat envelops me in its embrace. I keep a hoodie with me at all times and wear it even in the warm classrooms. And crawling into a bed when the electric blanket has been on for 10-15 minutes; it's pure bliss. The surgery changes us in so many ways. Before surgery, in the middle of a California winter, I would go in nothing but pants and a t-shirt - no sweater, coat or anything. Now, the winters are miserable. I still love winter (it's my fav season) but I have to bundle up. Of course there isn't that 250 pounds of insulation on me and my body furnace doesn't have to work overtime to keep the body temp up. _____ From: DS_Friends_Keshishian [mailto:DS_Friends_Keshishian ] On Behalf Of MDL1031@... Guest guest
Same here; I still need air moving. I have a little fan in my bedroom that goes all night, but not directly on me - it just keeps the air circulating and that's enough. _____ From: DS_Friends_Keshishian [mailto:DS_Friends_Keshishian ] On Behalf Of MDL1031@... Guest guest
Ditto on the cold intolerance. All my insulation is gone! I used to handle both heat and cold with little issue. Cold is just BRRRRR. COLD! (of the legendary popsicle toes) Re: Heat intolerance I'm lying here now with an electric blanket on me. Tom has the air set on 72 and I swear he is trying to kill me.
