I have lowered my carb intake and seen awesome results. I am not just talking weight wise, but in my energy level, mood swings, cravings and things like that. I don't eat " low carb " really, just LOWER carb, like was pointing out. My main reason for this was to get more protein in for my weight training that I do. I make sure I eat protein in every meal. I have cut out the useless carbs, I am not talking fruit and veggies, but stuff like cookies, chips, white bread, white pasta, white rice ... low carb gets a bad wrap because people assume that you live on bacon and steak. No way! I eat lean meat, egg whites, whole grains, lots of green veggies, things like olive oil for " good fats " ... things like that. I have found that having some protein and fat in my meals keeps me a lot more satisfied. Before I could eat a few bowls of something like cereal and be hungry again in an hour. Now I'll eat something like an egg white omelet with veggies and cheese and it keeps me full a lot longer. For some people, a high carb diet works great. But for me I was finding that my diet was primarily carbs, and junky carbs at that. By one o'clock in the afternoon I was totally drained of all energy. I am amazed by the changes in my energy levels and mood swings since I changed the way I eat. Now if I have something sugary, I immediately feel the negative results. It's really interesting. Anyway, my point in all of this rambling is that everyone has to find their own " thing " and if it works for you and if you feel good, stick with it
Guest guest
Darcy, I am like you, I love carbs ans always thought it was my downfall to not losing weight, but it was portion control. I have just changed the types of carbs that I eat, so I am not eating hardly any bread or processes flour, except my morning cereal. but, everything has carbs in it!!! Anyway, I am also sticking to low fat/low calorie!! Although I have always admired people who are very low carb!! Temera who now wants honey shredded wheats!! yummy I love that cereal!! I have lowered > my carb intake and seen awesome results. That's exactly what I think. I have followed a pretty strict low carb diet in the past where the 3 P's were virtually eliminated (those are in french " pain " for bread, potatoes, pasta) along with caffeine. Although I lost a lot of weight (about 40 pounds) back then (to regain about 15 pounds of it back before pregnancy), I was amazed at my energy level as well. Although this particular form of eating was much too restrictive for me (hence the weight I gained back), I have adopted certain principles from it. I don't eat white pasta, white rice, or white bread anymore. I also limit my sweets and limit eating " empty " calories. I don't consider myself lo carb, but I'm careful of my carb choices! In a nutshell, you have to do what works for you! However, as an MD, I DO NOT recommend Atkins. It is based on the dangerous principle of inducing a state of metabolic ketosis which if severe enough can lead to death (in very severe cases that is, but I've never heard of anyone dying whild doing Atkins and I know he does not promote dangerous levels of metabolic ketosis). Some medical professionals might think otherwise, but this is my opinion based on my medical knowledge. I am an advocate of reducing our levels of " bad " carbohydrates to a minimum (which is sometimes very difficult in North America...) and I can give a thumbs up to , and Colleen's on their choices. Guest guest
That's so great that you found something that is working for you! I will admit that I don't eat meat very often... only a few times a week. So, how long have you been eating low-carb? I would say that I get an over-abundance in the cereal category, but everywhere else I think I'm okay in. I eat a LOT of fruit and vegetables though too. Anyway, glad to hear your perspective Darcy who is chomping on an apple as I type... > In a message dated 7/18/01 9:06:34 AM Eastern Daylight Time, > taebo_spirit@h... writes: > > > > > > Darcy who thinks she will stick with her simple low-fat diet and not > > > > I think it's all a matter of finding what works best for you. I'm in the process of compiling a " grocery " list for the next time I go shopping in the states for the stuff we can get here and I accept any suggestions!! This is a call to all you guys also. What are your favorite " healthy " foods?? Give me some ideas so my icebox will be packed once I cross the border! Tax free items are even more welcome (because I don't have to pay duties on them). TIA Janick who will be going on a short vacation to the coast of Maine in a few weeks (with Jordan, my dad and my mom)

My favorite healthy foods in the summer are strawberries, blueberries, and melon (watermelon and cantelope). I've also been snacking on the lettuce that comes in a bag (romaine is my favorite). I eat it plain right out of the bag, as wierd as that sounds. Elena
Guest guest
Hey, don't quit rambling!! I love hearing about different diets.. My taste buds are doing some 'adjusting' themselves. Sometimes things are too sweet for me...lol, never thought I'd say that ESPECIALLY cereal. I had some apple jacks the other day, and found out how way to sweet they are, boy they were sweet. Wow, how times have changed... I'm the one who just recently cut out the habit of gobbing sugar on EVERY cereal possible (no exaggeration when I say gobbing). This is one of my greatest accomplishements (really, it was a terrible habit). Anyway, I will have to add in egg whites, I very rarely eat those, and seldomly cottage cheese. I really need to up my protein also.. Hmm... it sounds like that is a future 21 DC in the makin'...
