Guest guest
Larean, My dad has been on Seroquel for several years, and it has been a lifesaver for us. It has really settled him down and given him some peace. He is on a low dosage - 25 mg. twice a day. Not all LBD patients respond to it so well, but I would highly recommend trying it to see how your dad responds. My dad has not had any trouble with it at all. If your dad responds to it well also, you will both be glad he tried it. Let us know how things go. Big hugs, Piper
Guest guest
Hi all, Well, in the past two weeks the hallucinations have really stepped up, and my Dad has fallen twice running from invisible people, second time he landed on his head and really hurt himself. The NH reports that the hallucinations have been so bad he is in a constant agitated state, worried about people after him. The psychiatrist at the NH wants to put him on Seroquel, a neuroleptic. Like most of you, I've heard that LBD patients have a terrible senstivity to neuroleptics, so I haven't given them the go ahead as of yet to give him this medication. We are trying to arrange a neurologist consult as quickly as possible, I'm hoping the neurologist will be able to offer an alternative solution as to what medicine he can be given. What are your thoughts on this? Does anyone have their loved one on a medicine for hallucinations, and if so, what? Please help! -Larean
Guest guest
Hi Larean, I, too, agonised when it came time to put mom on Seroquel but I have to say that it has improved her quality of life markedly. The trick to Seroquel is to go low and slow. Mom's first script was too much for her and she either slept 20 hours a day or she had increased anxiety. I tinkered with this med and now mom is on 1/2 pill in the morning and 1/2 pill in the evening. Of course, mom still hallucinations but they aren't the scarry ones anymore and sometimes they are down right hillarious. All the best to you and your mom. Guest guest
Hi Larean: My dad was diagnosed earlier this year with LBD, and has been on Seroquel almost since the beginning. It has been great for him - he's not nearly so agitated or confused, and while he still has the hallucinations, they don't trouble him so much. He takes 25 mg a day I think, at bedtime. He's also on Reminyl (apparently an AD drug), which also seems to be helping. I think it's worth a try. If he doesn't react well to it, change the dosages a bit and see if that helps. This drug could mean a big improvement for your dad. Hang in there...
