I wonder if this is a reaction to the Melatonin? My son responded to Melatonin well for a while, helping him get to sleep, but after he was on it for a while he would get to sleep then just wake up in the middle of the night, wired. We even tried slow-release Melatonin, but it wasn't any better.

Apparently this can be a common side effect with Melatonin. We figured this out recently when my husband had the same reaction Melatonin.

My son has been night waking for over a year now. He just wakes and starts video talking. I

have heard from many ASD parents that this is common ... what do you think causes it?

We've tried melatonin but it's not helping, if anything, he is waking more. Right now I am on

a supplement break to see if it something else we are giving him.

Hello

How much taurine do you give ? Do you give

it just before sleep ? together with the melatonin ? My son needs to take also

his tablet of LDN just before sleep.

We did the amino acids test at metametrix

and indeed it showed that our son needs taurine. My DAN ordered the amino acids

powder custom made but meanwhile I would like to give the taurine since school

will start in two weeks ( after 9 weeks of holiday).

Thanks for your advice !

When the liver is stressed trying to detoxify, it

will cause a person to wake up in the night and have trouble going back to

sleep. My boys did this forever. Melatonin and 5HTP helped them

to go to sleep but they would still wake up any where from 1am to 5am ready

to go.

We added in Liver Life by BioRay and now they sleep

12-13 hours every night.

Hi,

Melatonin helps you go to sleep, not stay asleep. My son would both lie

awake for hours before falling asleep, and would also wake up in the

middle of the night, perfectly happy, singing and talking to himself.

Using a melatonin/magnesium combo at night helped him stay asleep,

giving taurine at night helps him stay asleep. Within a week of adding

taurine to his nighttime supps, he stayed asleep for 10 hours for the

first time in his life. I know some others have also had success with

this - it's worth a shot.

Hi,

We give 500mgs of taurine at night before bed, along with

melatonin/magnesium and our probiotic. You can start at a lower

dosage than this though, I think the Kirkman's brand comes in 300 mg

capsules. Most of our kids are deficient in taurine.

One night last week my husband forgot to give my son these supps

before bed, and sure enough, at about 3am he woke up singing " Twinkle

Twinkle " which continued for over an hour. Without the taurine he

can't stay asleep.

Hope this helps you :-)

The same thing happened with our son after a year of taking slow

release melatonin. I took him off of it - after a few days, he slept

better, then started waking up again at night, so we put him back on

it and now he is fine. I now plan on giving him a break from

melatonin every few months for about a week.

In our experience,

night wakings often correlate to a need for antifungals.

It means the yeast has taken control.......

Especially if night wakings are paired with giggling.

Thanks,
