Guest guest
Check out these videos of power cleans and power snatches, which are apparently supposed to be examples to be imitated: http://istvanjavorek.com/book/pc.htm http://istvanjavorek.com/book/ps.htm As someone still learning Olympic lifting, these videos are certainly of value to me, though perhaps not as they were intended to be. Guest guest
Excellent eye Byron! Unfortunately it's one of the most common mistakes with novices in Olympic Weightlifting. Normally as the athletes perform a good clean, they will come onto the balls of their feet as they finish the drive of the second pull. Since they have to reposition quickly to squat width to pull themselves under the bar, they shuffle FAST to squat width, hence, the loud stomp. Another common mistake of novices is that in their haste to master the lifts to the squat position, they will " dive " under the bar, without any extension. In the case of those videos, the jump/stomp is superfluous since it is not following any explosive extension of the involved structures. The coach is to blame for this. A good athlete/lifter follows the coach's instructions and trusts that the has the know-how. The producer of the video also claims to be the trainer of Dragomir Ciroslan and many other elite athletes. I heard from other coaches that were as aghast as I was, that this guy was supposed to be good. I hope he gets to post soon and explains that technique of his, which although it bears certain ressemblance to OL, it's FAR from the real thing, or from delivering the benefits proper OL provides to athletes. Guest guest
Mr. Coronado and Mr. , First, I was coached by Dragomir Cioroslan, along with Wes Barnett, at the Olympic Training Center as a resident athlete. Both Dragomir Cioroslan and Wes Barnett WERE coached by Istvan Javorek for a time, so anyone who says different is ignorant and rash to say otherwise. In fact, as I recall, Coach Javorek was one of Dragomir's first coaches, if not his first. I believe he was his first coach. Second, the rationale behind the technique used in the videos at question was NOT that there needs to be a change in lifting technique because an athlete is training for sport enhancement rather than the sport of weightlifting. I saw Coach Javorek answer these criticisms on goheavy.com, and his rationale was that he did not obsess (my paraphrasing) about exacting technique with non-weightlifters since they could get much of the benefit from the lifts without spending the necessary time and energy to master the lifts as a weightlifter must do. I strongly disagree with this rationale, but it certainly seems reasonable and I think there is some truth to it. And, Coach Javorek has in NO way misrepresented his resume. I know him personally and have great respect for him. Guest guest
I think you may be confusing the postings in here with the ones that you read at " Go Heavy " . I don't think anyone here has attacked his credentials (as it was done in the aforementioned site). If not, then you did not read my reply to Coach Javorek's posting. I suggest that you please do so. Finally, Coach Javorek and I have been in friendly, professional communication lately, in fact he replied privately to my previous posting with an excellent explanation. I've ordered his book and I will pay him a visit at his Head Quarters next summer. I believe he's a wealth of info, and those clips, though not representing exactly what we look for, in no way diminish his accomplishments. I hope you took the time to post your reply in " Go Heavy " as well. They could use your side of the story. It's nice to see you stand-up for your coach. I'm sure he appreciates it. Good luck!
