Guest guest
Hi you guys. Just getting back online after an absence. Sounds like you guys have both been just getting through. The flu this season is wicked. Sorry to hear both your boys have had such challenges. Hope things turn around soon. Things are ok here. We are on week three no meds and find our son's demeanor better in general, but the ocd is up. ly, at this point we'll take the trade off. Thought I'd at least make use of this time to try out some alternative stuff, not that our son is willing to try anything... Have either of you found any alternative stuff that worked? Hugs to you both! Barb
Guest guest
Hi, Barb. So sorry you have to have a trade off. ( Glad you are back. And glad to hear some things have improved, even if the OCD is worse. We tried Inositol a couple of years back and it didn't make any difference for us, just caused some diarrhea. Josh is taking some fish oil this time, but also not seeing any difference. For him the Celexa has made the biggest difference, yet even with it, he struggles. I've read of some in here having good results with alternative stuff, just not for us. Hope you find something that can make things better instead of worse for your son and for you. Because, let's face it, it isn't only our kids who are affected by OCD. Hugs, BJ > > Hi you guys. Just getting back online after an absence. Guest guest
Hi Judy, It was our son's idea to go off meds, an ocd thing...can't even take a vitamin. But thought I'd attempt some new alternative stuff. We did try the inositol before meds were started and he seemed to get worse as I increased the dose, not sure if it was just the illness or inositol, but wasn't comfortable doing it without dr supervision. He had been taking fish oil plus other stuff, but won't take any of it anymore. Am trying to convince him to go for some blood tests to check for deficiencies. If he sees proof he says he might be convinced. Got to keep trying! Have to say we like our son a whole lot better off medication. We can communicate, sometimes(!), and he will accept rules and consequences(of course not without noise...). His ocd tells him everyone is against him and is bullying him, including us. When he was on meds it just seemed to add a charge to this thinking and he was reactive and very difficult. Now he is " normal " teen with ocd thinking for him still, but most of the time we can reach the healthier part of him. Not sure I am explaining it well, so hard to explain a day in the life of this illness. Anyway, for now on the whole it is better than it has been. Fingers and toes crossed it continues to be managable.... How are things in your house these days? Glad everyone is physically healthier at least. Barb > > Hi Barb, > My dd sounds like your son, when she is off all meds she acts better, but her OCD flares, and she panics. My son cannot go more than two days without meds or he is seeing things, and in a major panic. > > Maybe keep your son off meds for a while and see how he does.??(just a suggestion, if he seems to be doing well) Have you tried inositol or fish oil? I have heard of some getting great results, although, my kids are not lucky as far as homeopathic meds go. > > That is great news though! Now would be a perfect time to try something natural. Even melatonin for sleep or the Calms!! > Hugs > Judy > >
