Guest guest
When my son was diagnosed at the Meyer Center for Developmental Pediatrics/Texas Children's Hospital 4 years ago Dr. Madduri and Dr. s both " warned " me that I would be told by other people that my son probably suffers from Celiac Disease, that he would need to take mega doses of vitamins and have mercury poisoning and told me not to buy into it. Then they told me to go out and buy a book called The World of the Autistic Child: Understanding and Treating Autistic Spectrum Disorders by Bryna Siegel, which I did and it was one of the most depressing, gloomy books I've ever read regarding autism and its diagnoses and prognoses. Just as soon as I finished reading it I walked out to the trash bin and threw it away and decided to start doing a lot of autism research and look into Celiac Disease, vitamins/supplements and mercury poisoning, in other words, I was going to do the opposite of what the doctors said. If you still want to pursue the Meyer Center don't wait for them to call you, keep calling them everyday until they give you an appointment, tell them you'll take first availability and to call you when someone else cancels. Incidentally, Texas Children's Hospital, an affiliate of Baylor College of Medicine, is nationally ranked in the top ten among children’s hospitals by U.S. News & World Report. The hospital has garnered widespread recognition for its expertise and breakthrough developments in the treatment of cancer, diabetes, asthma, HIV, premature babies, cardiogenic and attention-related disorders. Did you notice how autism is not listed as an area of expertise? Maybe things might improve there in the future, but in my opinion 4 years ago they weren't experts in autism. Perhaps joining the ATN will bring improvements--I don't know but I don't have to time to wait on them. However, I did see Dr. Sherry Sellers Vinson (Chief of Developmental Pediatrics Service at the Meyer Center) at the annual disability conference & resource fair in Tomball last October where she asked a question during Dr. Cave's presentation on " Update on Vaccination 2007 " safety and efficacy of children’s vaccinations was discussed--but I couldn't hear what she was said.
