Tanda

If you are not satisified with the doctors, trust yourself. Go to Cranial

Tech and get an evaluation -- they are the experts. This is what I will be

doing next week. Unfortunately we have been going around in circles since

baby was two months old and he is now nine months.

Try to give you baby tummy time. Just laying baby on your lap a little now

and then will strengthen her torso. This is what is needed for the strength

to sit up. Unfortunately the American Academy of Pediatrics not only failed

to tell us about plagio, but they also failed to tell us that the

" milestones " occur later with back/side sleeping because the torso does not

get the exercise it would with tummy sleeping. I think that you will find

that physically she is not so late.

My first baby who is now 15 years old was put to sleep on his tummy. He was

sitting up at 4 months old! My baby now nine months old only started sitting

up around six or seven months and he has yet to " master " it.

Hi Tanda!

Great to hear from you and I'm sorry we missed each other too. I'm also

sorry to hear that it was a tough trip. You know, Maddie pretty much sobbed

throughout the entire casting. The bath didn't even calm her down and she

loves baths. It must have been so hard on little Kaia to travel that

distance, then to have someone put a sock over her face! That's just not

fun!

I agree with you that flying is the way to go. Now if we could only get

insurance to cover that expense! (Of course, we're still waiting to hear if

they'll even cover the band itself!)

We are headed back up to Phoenix tomorrow for an adjustment and general check

up. I'll let you know when we are scheduled to be up there and perhaps one

of these times we'll finally meet.

As for decorating the band...I have a friend named Maggie, otherwise known as

Martha . She's very crafty and can paint like Picasso. I asked her

to do an underwater scene (ocean life) on Maddie's band. She just finished

today and it looks amazing! It's so colorful and detailed. I'll have to

figure out how to put pictures in the files section so you can look at it. I

don't have a scanner (I know, I know. Get with it, ) otherwise I would

just load it into mail. I followed the decorating advice given here on the

list as far as paint and acrylic varnish. Thanks everyone for the great

advice! Have fun decorating, Tanda.

Talk to you soon,

Fortunately, we only have to travel about 100 miles, but for those of you who

are traveling long distances this might be something to check into.

Have any of you checked into whether discounts are available for trips taken for medical reasons?

Hi there, Belinda! I missed you guys too, by the way :) :)

And to answer your question, YES! Medical expenses (mileage, meals, copays, tolls, airfare, hotel costs) are a deductible expense in taxes. I posted some info a while back on this subject....I'll hunt it down and repost it, ok?

Did you see Dottie (the nurse) for exercises re: your son's tort? We saw her

the first time we went and she really wasn't able to examine Tyler because he

had fallen asleep on me. But I was just curious, what exercises did she

recommend? She was the one who recommended placing Tyler to sleep on his

stomach. I'm grateful for that suggestion, because it did help out somewhat.

Jen,

We did see Dottie. She recommended that we give him plenty of tummy

time....the exersaucer...having him lay over a boppy pillow so he would have

to lift his head...holding his shoulder and moving his head to each

side....and pulling him up by his arms. At the time he was still to young to

sleep on his stomach, but he does. After talking to her my husband and I

were a little confused. The doctor told us that the measurements warranted a

helmet and she told us that her neice had the same problem but went away with

repositioning. We weren't sure whose advice to take so we went with the

repositioning for 5 weeks. We will find out Friday if it helped...If not we

will have to do the DOC band.

Hi - I just recently joined the e-group and have a few questions! How old is

your baby? Our son is 7 months now - we noticed his head was flat in the

back at about 3 months, and at 4 mos we had a CT scan done. Our ped said we

should try repositioning but that we should just wait it out since there was

no problem with his brain. It's been bothering me since - we saw some slight

improvement but I think it has really levelled off. I tried to make an appt

with a pediatric neuro. today, but he can't get in until Aug at which point

he'll be 9 months. Is that too late for him to get a band or helmet? Thanks

for your help!

My son is now almost 5 months. We noticed the flattening at 2 weeks. At 3 1/2

months our ped recommended us to a pediatric plastic surgeon. We never had a

CT scan done, but he was diagnosed with plagio and tort. We have done

repostioning and it has seemed to help a little but it is still flat. We go

back this Friday to find out. As far as the time limit for the band or

helmet, I'm not exactly sure. There is a web site -Cranialtech.com - that

might help you about questions re: the band. Good luck.

Hi, I thought I'd chime in here...first if the CT scan showed the sutures

line open, there probably isn't a need for the neuro to be the one to

prescribe a helmet or band. It would be good to see one, but don't let that

slow down you starting this therapy. August is a long time to wait (in " Mom "

time that is:)!). Yes, you could start either at 9 months, but if you want

to a band or helmet, then early is better for both. Your ped should be able

to rx the band or helmet. Is there another neuro you can get in with? Just

my two cents! :) Kimry

Hi--my son is 9 1/2 mos. and just got his band a week ago--it's not too

late! Wendi
