For those of you interested in the background of psychotherapist Jo

Rapini, this is what's on her website:

She became an LVN at the U of Iowa. Later she graduated with a masters

degree in counseling from the U of Houston (1987), and is now a Licensed

Professional Counselor (LPC).

She has run several marathons. Her experiences in psychotherapy

encompass being a counselor for the Child Resource & Info Service

(CRIS). She trained volunteers & monitored a crisis line. She was

active in oncology counseling and ran support groups.

She has a private practice and consults for patients of several

physicians performing WLS. She seems to " advertise " her expertise in

sexual counseling.

Just thot you'd wanta know. I did have the opportunity to email her,

and I let her know my opinion of her in this series.

Bobbe in Paso. 285=24. 3/03. 167.5=14.

I have watched that a couple of times and I have kind of been disgusted with

how long some of those people have been there and done absolutely nothing

about their weight. Some have been there for years and they won't diet, exercise

and follow any rules, yet they continue to live there for free. I don't know

why they should be allowed to get away with it. If they aren't willing to

help themselves then why should they be allowed to take up space that I am sure

there are people that would love to have some help have. Like that gal last

week, the one with those really really big legs, that refuses to follow any

rules, then when someone died by her she gets all upset. But still she didn't

do much. I haven't been impressed with them. I will watch them a couple more

times and see if there is going to be any hope for them, and then probably

just give up on them. No sense even caring about them if they don't care about

themselves. I do understand the girl who still carries a fat image in her head

of herself. I still find myself sometimes heading for the bigger clothes

dept. then stopping and realizing I don't have to go there. Things like that. I

do still use the handicapped bathroom a lot, but that is because of my metal

back, in some bathrooms the stools are so low I have a hard time getting up,

so I need the rail. But I used to need that extra space also. I know that fat

image is still there a lot of the time. I do like seeing people lose the the

weight, though I do wish it was not with the gastric bypass. I just don't

like the idea of not using their own stomach. I don't like that little pouch

thing. I am so glad I have the DS. But for a lot of them at least they will get

their weight down and get their health back, hopefully. I did.

Mel, that is a series. I watch if quite often. It is the place where

someone from an original show went, remember, was her name a? I

forget details, but I think that is how they got the idea for its own

show.

Yep,

I watch it after Big Medicine I can't understand

why if they want to be there why keep cheating and

then get mad at the guy running it when he tries

to make them tow the line....

I also have a hard time watching the patients of the

obesity clinic. I feel that the one doctor is being

slightly codependent. These people are moving in

there and getting nurses to take care of them hand and

foot while they sit on their asses and not put forth

the effort to get better. Some of the people are

working the program and I have respect for them. But,

the one lady who weighs almost 400 pounds who is

taking food orders for the people who are bedridden

needs to be kicked out. Some of the patients are

totally taking this doctor for granted. He needs to

crack down hard. I see he is a sweet man but he is

slightly codependent? Does anyone else see that or is

it just me?

I think he is in denial. I think he should make the rules clear and

discharge anyone who doesn't follow them or seem committed to the rules. I

wonder

who is paying and how insurance would react to know he is allowing this mess

to go on. I understand they have to be committed to the program and this is

their decision but then again they should not be there if they are not going

to do as expected. I say boot their butts out. But then again they said that

one person had lost 50 lbs but should have lost 150lbs. So any weight loss

is better than none?

I need to watch it again. Didn't he say they were thinking of making

new rules?

He did put rules out and the eaters got very

mad.He changed some rooms so the ones that

are really trying are together..He even put

a security man at the front of the building

so everyone is checked that comes in...but I

don't see how that will stop those that order

out...They would have to get the food because

it has to be paid for don't ya think???

Hi Mel,

I agree, if they are losing weight, any amount of

weight, then they should stay. But, it's sad that the

one guy has been there for 4 years and has gained 250

pounds. That should not have been allowed.

I missed that one! Gained 250 lbs. I'd say Discharge ASAP. He's definitely

not with the program.
