Hi ,

I have the same disorders as you but the deterioration of the CFIDS and the FMS caused the MCS with me.

I was on LDN for 3 weeks and noticed a bit of stool hardening but since I have IBS, it was a welome effect.

Magnesium would probably help with that.

Good Luck,

Barb

[low dose naltrexone] constipation?

Hi-I have severe multiple chemical sensitivities (MCS) which keep mehomebound. The MCS also causes my CFS and FM.I have been on 3 mg compounded LDN for about two weeks now. Westarted me at a low dose because I am very reactive to medications. Iam not noticing any of the jitteriness or insomnia, but I already hadsevere sleep issues before (never really sleeping more than 2 hours ata time). What I am now dealing with is HORRIBLE constipation. I don't ever getconstipated and eat an organic, whole foods diet. Anyone else have this problem?

Yep, that's what I'm doing since January. 800 MG Magnesium, usually 2 or 3 days in a row, then I stop... then will do 2-3 days in a row, and stop. When I have plans to go places I usually stop 2-3 days prior no matter where I am in the cycle.

Sometimes magnesium 800 MG works TOO well.

> Yep, that's what I'm doing since January. 800 MG Magnesium

Ok. I'll be pumping in some magnesium now. I've started with Vit C,

but i have a very high bowel tolerance for it, so it would take 20mg

just to be me to diarrhea when I am not constipated. I've also taken

some homeopathics that usually help me. I'm going to add some flax

seeds, too. They usually work well for me when I don't intend them

to! I'll probably end up spending most of tomorrow in the bathroom,

but at the moment, that sounds like a good thing. I'm having back and

bladder pain because I'm so stopped up.

Fish Oil: I am on some from Vital Nutrients. I don't do a lot of it

because I have to take detox and liver formulas as well as antifungals

just to function, and there's a point at which I can't take any more

pills. Plus, finances start to come into play.

Correctol: It's not an option for me. I am very reactive to any

chemicals, especially things that have dyes in them, which Correctol

does. The little red Sudafed pills leave me sleepless for 24+ hours;

but I can tolerate the natural form of psuedephedrine by Nature's Way

or the 12 hour ones which have no red dye. (Correctol Active

Ingredients: each tablet contains: Bisacodyl USP (5 mg) Inactive

Ingredients: Acetylated Monoglyceride, Calcium Sulfate, Carnuba Wax,

D & C Red 7, Gelatin, Hydroxypropyl Methylcellulose, Lactose, Magnesium

Stearate, Sugar, Talc, Titanium Dioxide, White Wax, Corn Starch (may

contian), Povidone (may contian).)

This constipation is the ONLY thing LDN has done for me so far... not

a good thing.

Thanks.

I take Magnesium, have been taking B1 since July 1 (when I went camping, to keep away mosquitoes, but I think it may be helping my legs, so I'm still taking it), and Milk Thistle (haven't notice anything with it, except when fatigued I now have both legs RLSing on me a bit).

I try not to take anything, but have a cabinet of all sorts of things... so I'll take those other things 'here and there'... when my body seems to direct my hand to grab something. LOL.. A, B complex, Calcium/Mag/D, Coral Calcium, C, E, and some other things my wife's picked up. But I don't take a million things a day, never did, always sporadically.

LDN is the ONLY thing I ever managed to do Regularly. Day 843 now, only missed Day 359, and was later than 3am a few other times.

Yes ,

I  also have the very same except that my constipation started LONG BEFORE I EVER

GOT ILL.   In fact one Brain Doc even told e that it is B/C of my constipation

that I now may be ill.   He told me that when I went to the bathroom that I

strained so much hat I  was depriving my brain of the needed Ox to function properly.

I told him that sometimes I would sit on the toilet for almost 1.1/2 hours

before I could go,  He said that is the reason that I am sick today ..    He

said that it was just like having sleep apnea <sol>.  That is what I now

must contend with 24/7/365., knowing the would of just tossed the direction on

the Wheat Germs bottle away to day  just might be t playing golf, not sitting in

front this blasted machine.    I now take 15 Fibercon tablets per day, pus 15 stool

softeners plus 15  table spoons off Benifiber, 5 of ea 3 x’;s a day .I’e

had my gffamlty, Braim , and ass Doc’shave “ALL” told me to

take as much of the supplements that ws necessary to get myself ggular.   I now

go ever 1 ½ days, which is real good ight for me.

So itf Iwere you what I would do is start

taking PLENTY OF FibER, and I mean “PLENTY” Asnfd jtt keeping

around with intil you start going regular or on your schedule

Hope this helps

Good point . When I think back over the years, I have been dealing with the Big C for a LONG LONG time, I never worried about it, and it always, I guess, seemed like the LEAST of my problems. When I went camping for many days at a time, I just figured it was a good thing, I didn't like going in the porta potties anyway. LOL My GP told me not to worry about it, and then tells me about his mother who was much worse and she was fine by just letting nature take it's course.

This was before LDN, and before I Knew I had MS... I think I've had MS for a long long time, I just don't remember the details of the 80s, just clearly annually since 1991. The SX seem to go back much longer, and I definitely had a big one in 1981 that was always a mystery. I also remember a 1978 incident that was, and maybe even before that. I was born with SBO, so whatever else that interfered with, it's been lifelong.

But I did notice after being on LDN a while that I did have a constipation issue. It did seem like it was only since starting LDN... which would be the typical response. Maybe the LDN made it 'more so'? OR, and I really just thought of this just now, when I read your post.

Maybe it's an issue, now, on LDN, because all the worse issues have changed, or gone, or are so much easier to live with, that the ONLY thing I really notice or can poinpoint as being 'a problem', is the constipation. Since I started playing around with Magnesium, I have no complaints at all. Now instead of just letting things happen, I add some fuel to the fire and it gets things going. Just not the opposite extreme and too much.

15 fibercon and 15 ss's? wow, that's a lot of stuff. I was only taking 2 of them. I don't like those horse pills though, and the ss's with senna taste horrible. The tea isn't much better, but tolerable, well, after a while, you just kinda get used to it. Acquired taste, I guess.

The last batch of magnesium I found are 400s and large capsules, but no taste, and no fear of it getting stuck and expanding in your throat.

I just like to do the least amount of chemical tinkering as possible. My body knows best, sometimes I just throw in some tools here and there.

Dr. McBride says constipation is ALWAYS from lack of good bacteria in the gut. Probiotics introduced slowly. From: lwlong@...Date: Fri, 12 Nov 2010 17:13:14 +0000Subject: [ ] Constipation?

What would be some GAPS approved methods for relieving constipation?

Hubby is reluctant to have 17yo son use an enema. He is afraid the son will not be willing to continue with the diet. Can we use a glycerin suppository?

Just prior to going on the Intro on Monday, son was taking large doses of magnesium to keep him regular. We stopped all supplements cold turkey. That may have been a mistake. Just trying to follow GAPS intro to the letter.

I assume we should wait until the constipation is improved before trying to progress on the introductory diet? We are still at stage 1.

We have been doing it for 4 days without the Sauerkraut juice. It was only ready today. So, we are now adding it to soups and broth. I am hoping that the fermented juice will help the constipation.

Thank you for answering my questions.
