Guest guest
, What type of coach do you like to learn from? Technical/analytical or emotional cheerleader? Both? Are you willing to move? It is very important to fit the right coach with the right athlete. I trained under Dan Pfaff for a couple of years and I haven't met anyone more knowledgable yet. Donavan went to train with Loren for a bit but eventually came back to Dan. From the little I know, Loren's philosophy is most focused on turnover while Dan likes to focus on landing flat-footed for maximal effiency. I don't really know what 's philosophies are. He seems to produce great post-collegiate sprinters. Obviously all of their training is much more complex than just a few philosophies. What age are you and have you considered contacting these individuals directly? Also, there are many great coaches out there that can take 1/2 a second off a young sprinter's time. Guest guest
I'm a little late with this response, so I hope it is not too late. I would recommend when you talk to the various coaches that you ask them how successful they are in taking an average runner or a good runner into a much better and faster runner. I'm a firm believer that you need technique analysis and improvement as well as running-specific exercises to improve your running. Either one can make you better, but doing both makes you the best you can be for your genetics. From my experiences, most coaches even on the highest levels as for example, , merely run their runners. They do not do specialized work on technique analysis or strengthening. To give you a better idea of what I am talking about, I recommend you read my book, Explosive Running. I am not a running coach, per se, but I work with many runners. I do a biomechanical analysis of their running to determine weak and strong points of their running and what their strengths and weaknesses are. They are then put on specialized programs specific to their needs. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Yessis, Ph.D President, Sports Training, Inc. www.dryessis.com PO Box 460429 Escondido, CA 92046 ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Guest guest
Ross, Thank you for all of your previous advice. In your previous email, you asked if I considered contacting Loren Seagrave or Don Pfaff directly, but like you said in your second email, I don't think they would sacrifice a second of their valuable time because I'm a begginner in terms of sprinting with a goal to become elite. Do you know how I would be able to contact them, or better yet, do you know where I could find the best resources (DVD/Videos/Books/training facilities/etc.) by these two elite coaches? I know Loren has a series called " Speed Dynamics " and that he has a chain of training facilities - one of which will be opening in Jupiter, Florida (the closest location to my curent adress). Thank you so much again! Respectfully, Aponte West Palm Beach, FL, USA
