I recieved an inexpensive pair of calipers with instructions to take just one

measurement at the stomach. Then using a chart provided they give a %

correlating to you sex and age. BAH!!

I know calipers for body fat measurement are not the most accurate, but we can

do better then that. Does any one have a chart/formula or web site that uses

more measurements and takes into account body weight. I've seen it done with at

least 4 measurements and body weight, but haven't had much luck finding it

Harold,

Strength Coach Poliquin has a 10 site bodyfat system software which

sells for approximately $200.

If your interested email Gouldros at ggoudros@.... or call him at

.

The two calipers recommended by are the Harpenden or Bull Calipers.

Hal,

A text that I reference often by Heyward and Stolarczyk, Applied Body

Composition Assessment (Human Kinetics) is a great resource.

Interestingly enough I took part in a research project in grad school that

compared the quality and accuracy of calipers and little difference was

found between calipers that cost $20.00 and one that cost $300.00.

Consistency is what is most important to your clients, so be sure to use the

same calipers.

When using skinfold calipers the greatest inaccuracies that occur have to

do with the technicians skill and experience at locating the skinfold sites

and using the appropriate population specific equation.
