Necessity being the mother of invention, I stopped this infection instantly

after having been bitten by a house spider. I felt him the moment he bit me and

as I responded, he reeled in his tether string which was suspended over my bed

as an escape attempt. As our eyes met, I dispatched him to the Fields of

Ambrosia with the clap of my hands.

As I entered my morning shower, I noticed a plump red bump on my arm. Upon

emerging from my daily routine, I noticed that the wound was now as large as a

dime, no longer red but gray, and was suppurating profusely.

Knowing that the local ER would take a chain saw to my arm, I decided to merge

preparation with opportunity and immediately made a poultice patch from several

layers of toilet paper which I placed over the now quarter-sized wound and

applied tea tree oil. I then dumped an ounce or two of DMSO in order to drive

the oil deep into the tissue in an attempt to block the infection from reaching

my blood stream. Next I dumped hydrogen peroxide onto the wad which initiated a

catalytic action which produced extreme heating to the degree that smoke wafted

off the crude bandage applicator. Surprisingly I could tolerate the burning

sensation rationalizing that a moving stainless steel blade would perhaps hurt

even more. After a minute or so, I removed the wad and pitched it into the

commode.

As a further measure, I applied UVC light exposure followed up by a generous

application of electric spark produced from a violet ray machine. It worked! The

wound healed and now, some 10 years later, there are no visual signs of my brush

with impending disaster.

Today I carry both tea tree oil and DMSO in my vehicle at all times just in case

this happens again and I am away from my lab. Now that I am thinking about it, I

will add to my stash a small bottle of hydrogen peroxide and a small pack of

Kleenex. Caveat Emptor! Carmi Hazen
