Guest guest
I can only think of 2 types of cleans 1) Power cleans -which are received in the quarter squat 2) Competition cleans- which are received in the full squat position. Cleans should then be defined by its starting position a) mid thigh above knee c) below knee d) floor e) high blocks Steve M.Ed., CSCS, USAW Faculty Instructor School of Health Sciences and Human Performance Lynchburg College Variations of Cleans A few months back (maybe more) there was a thread where members were discussing the variations of cleans. My search has come up blank. Basically I would like to know the exact name, for example, of a clean caught in the quarter squat position, or caught with knees and hips extended, or any other variation. Thanks. Guest guest
Grant, I have always referred to a clean pulled from the ground and caught above parallel as a POWER CLEAN and a clean caught low is a CLEAN or FULL CLEAN. Guest guest
Hi Grant, A few months back (maybe more) there was a thread where members were discussing the variations of cleans. Here are some of the variations I know of. My terminology may differ from some of the other members. Power clean - bar caught with thigh above parallel. Full clean - bar caught below parallel clean from the hang - the lift is initiated off the floor. clean off blocks - lift is initiated off clocks [don't you mean BLOCKS? JRG] clean from the waist - used for speed, lift initiated from waist - basically shrug and go under muscle clean - similar to power clean but the bar is caught with legs straight i.e. no squat clean from the side - rear, but there are track and field athlete who perform the power clean this way. suggest you get the weightlifting encyclopedia by Arthur Drechsler for further ideas Silverman Wellington New Zealand
