Did you know that iron is absorbed in the small intestines. Which as a DSer

much of our small intestines are bypassed. Add to that, the area of the small

intestines that are best at iron absorption are the Duodenum and the Jejunum

(the upper portion of the small intestines that " is bypassed " in the DS and RNY

surgeries) As DSers we do still retain a Duodenum " stump " , but that stump can't

be expected to do the entire job.

I personally use a heme form of iron supplement as it is Animal rather than

Plant based. In the " real " food eating world, eating meat based iron is

absorbed at a higher rate than Plant based irons (non-heme) I personally take

Proferrin or StandardProcess FerroFood (FerroFood is cheaper!). Some people

have great success with a carbonyl iron. (vitalady's big seller)
