Hello all, Today I am going to go have another iron infusion (last one in Feb '10). This time it is really affecting me physically. I have tummy rumblings, lots of reflux, nausea, terrible headaches and eyes hurting. I read these are symptoms of iron deficiency anemia. I had virtually no symptoms last year. I have had this headache off and on for several weeks, but it really reared its head yesterday. I can't work today. My daughter is planning on taking me for my infusion. I know it takes a while to feel better, and have to go the second one next week I believe. I hope it helps some rather quickly. It will be Feraheme again as the hematologist said that that was "the cadillac of all infusions." My 2 year surgiversary is May 19th, hard to believe. I am going to try to go see Dr. K after my iron has stabilized back to

normal so I am not so tired and hopefully will drive down myself. From: "DS_Friends_Keshishian " <DS_Friends_Keshishian >To: DS_Friends_Keshishian Sent: Wednesday, May 4, 2011 4:22 AMSubject: Re: Digest Number 5290

Thanks Pearl for the reassurance. My upper GI is also because of my anemia and my complaints that taking iron seems to make my tummy hurt. The Gastro Doc says that complaint seems pretty normal.

It is my hemetologist that referred me for this test. The Colonoscopy is mostly just because I passed the age of 50 :) Since I have met all my out of out of pocket costs with the insurance for the year it seems like

as good a time as any. There are not a lot of DS patients around here, the Gastro doc studied my card from Dr. K for quite a while. I took that as a good sign.

Hi All,

This is to serve as an introduction to the group.

My name is Caya. I am post GR-DS approaching my 8th year anniversary in early June. Thank You Dr. Keshisian for both saving my life and making it much more enjoyable!

I have been active on the Pacific Laparoscopy Yahoo board for some years and also active in the Ventura support group since before my DS procedure. I was introduced to the procedure by some of my patients (I am a treating Chiropractor with approaching 30 years in practice here in Ventura, California) having had great success with DS done by Dr. Rabkin the "much older brother" (according to Dr. Rabkin) here in Ventura. Since there was a group meeting here in town it seemed most appropriate to attend here rather than drive 2+ hours to Delano. I just recently learned that this Yahoo group existed so here I am. I am among a few of Dr. Keshisian's patients in Ventura and we are made to feel welcome and included.

In my post opp years I have tried to contribute what I could, when possible and appropriate. I have been practicing some level of nutrition since beginning my practice and researching nutrition issues relating to both normal and DS patients in my post DS life. This includes issues of vitamin forms and probiotics. Dr. Keshisian was kind enough to publish some of my work on the latter subject.

You can find this at: http://www.dssurger y.com/newsletter s/probiotic. php

This work was also included in a small clinical trial on recurrent C. diff not responding to antibiotics alone being successfully treated with S. boulardii in addition to conventional antibiotics.

I hope I can be of some help in the future.

DC
