increase in protein synthesis.(1) On a side note, beside having a

poor AA profile, soy intake may cause a number of health/performance

problems for men, for an excellent article on the topic, with

-Avoid soy like the flu, and the plague

I think the dangers of soy have been overstated. I have not seen any

reliable evidence that soy protein should be avoided by athletes.

While soybeans themselves have poor amino acid profiles (mainly due to the

lack of methionine), Supro soy protein isolate (which has methionine added)

has a PDCAA of 1.0, which is equivalent to egg and whey. Thus, the amino

acid profile of soy protein *isolate* is excellent.

Second, the concerns regarding testosterone and performance have been

overstated. It is true that in rats, genistein administration decreases

testosterone concentrations. It has also been observed that there is an

inverse relationship between soy intake and testosterone in Japanese men.

However, the correlation in this study was extremely small. In a later

study by the same researchers, soy supplementation did not alter

testosterone concentrations in Japanese men. Similar results have been

observed in monkeys.
